Square Enix Still Workin' On That New MMO

re Enix have a big MMO. It's called Final Fantasy XI. But FFXI is getting a little long in the tooth, so it's no surprise to hear Square Enix are still working on a successor.

Talk of the company's post-FFXI MMO has been around for years now, but during an address to investors last month, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada re-affirmed that while Final Fantasy XI was still quite profitable for the company, it couldn't last forever.

Speaking of this "transition", Wada says that, as FFXI winds down, "the question is where do we go from here, and we are currently developing a post-FFXI flagship title". Interesting that he calls it a "flagship" title, suggesting that instead of just switching to a more casual-friendly MMO like the company's existing Nicotto Town, it'll be something more substantial.

Final Fantasy XIV, perhaps? It's not like that'd be without precedent...

For those of you who don't know Rapture is the code name of the development project for their next MMO

And here is the link

Slightly old news, but i havn't seen it posted on here and a only check for news on it every week or so.

Around the Network

My god the lack of support for this game is astonishing to me....same thing with X-Edge. :(

I've been waiting on this game for awhile I'm sure it will be great, hard to get support for a game that no ones ever seen in action before. It's only really going off the credentials of FinalFantasy XI which a whole lot of people skipped/berated cause it was mmo/$99. I personally loved FFXI, one of my favorite all time games; although i don't play it anymore - it was a money maker for them.

It's pretty much a given that this is one of SE's larger budget games at the moment, and the production values will show in this game. There's a really good chance this will be the prettiest MMO by a long shot.
