This is the way to go.

You can drive to a local airport and fly to your destination. 

at $200 k, it's not cheap but in few years, it'll be under $100k or less.

I hope the recession will push these type cars out the door.  That might be a stretch for the flying cars, but this electric car looks a lot like it and will be released later this year.  Can't wait to see this next generation of vehicles hitting the roads.

They are actually decently priced too, that flying one at $195,000 and this electric from $25,000 to $40,000.  The thing about the flying cars though is regulating mass flying.  I wonder if they could start by simply putting lights on the top of select telephone polls and putting other polls up where there aren't any around highways and interstates, requiring people to stay to the confines of roads until a more specialized system is devised.  Intersections might be a little tricky to manipulate, but I'm sure they could just designate some airways to go over and some under.  Definitely no room for alcohol consumption there.

^Having onboard computers that limit controls within virtual curbs would work. Speed and height control could also be applied.

They will never let us have those things in the skies like cars. People can barely be trusted to drive cars, let alone fly planes. I can see there being a small demand for pilots, but anyone wanting this would have to obtain a pilot's license and that takes real schooling.

There is also the worry about falling asleep at the wheel. A car might stay in the road on the interstate, but a flying car has the chance of being a lot more dangerous.  Operating the cars will definitely be easier than flying a jet, but I bet it will be a while before a good somewhat safe system is accepted.

i like the old 60's and 80s cars, muscle, noise, fast, dangerous, and all steel not like todays cars were there run by computers and the styling sux and all these airbags all over the place

I wish I had a flying car.

Its because planes have to be airodynamic, but car makers don't worry about that as much with their car designs.  As long as the car has wheels it will still go somewhere.  This car is actually made to flow with the air, thus looking like a plane, but it allows it to be lighter and more efficient.  But yeah, as a first generation of its design, it is very different and the design could probably use a little work.  It will get better with subsequent generations.  The flying car looks like a plane because well .... it is. lol.
