Forums - General - Crime Rate, how high is it where you live?

Here at Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I live, the crime rate is so high that is dangerous to walk the streets. You aren't safe here anymore and the worst fact is that these human garbage will just kill you and then rob you.

We have such flexible laws that defend the accussed always instead of the damnified. Thieves and murderers have human rights, we don't. If someone makes use of force to defend themselves from getting killed, then you are guilty, you killed a poor person. But when they kill you, they were drugged or they were desperate and didnt know what they were doing. I'm fed up and f***ing angry about the situation here. Everyday tens of innocent people, policemen die. You get killed over a few bucks, and even if they ask you for everything, when you hand it in they would just kill you. These excrements force your doors, get into your house and keep you as hostages for hours until you give them all you have, they rape your sisters, mothers, daughters. Then they escape without consequences.

If I had any say in the society here, I'd encourage people to buy firearms and simply kill anyone that tries something suspicious. It's really that bad, everyone is getting paranoid here. Drug dealers and murderers should get death penalty... Death penalty isnt accepted here, the max sentence is 25 years. If they dont wanna implement death penalty then implement life sentence and freedom for the police to indiscriminatley shoot anyone dealing drugs and anyone who shoots at innocent people.

Also, new laws prevent minors to get detained on the streets, and considering that half of the crimes are done by minors, this has to change. I say judge minors as adults and give them the respective penalties.

I'm tired of this, had to post. How bad is it where you live? Impossible it's worse than here.

I don't know, tres, I think you're exaggerating a bit. Yes, no one is denying that crime is high in BA, but it's not like everytime you go out on the street they rob you. While the situation (specially the recent policemen murders) is to worry about, please don't paint such a catastrophic situation. As far as I know, we're better than Sâo Paulo, where you can't even go to the street
Or maybe I'm accustomed to hear about robs that it doesn't surprise me now, who knows

Well, maybe I'm pissed because my mom was robbed today. But it's as I'm saying for the most part, walking down the streets downtown at midnight is suicide.

I, myself have never been robbed, but it's not a localized problem, it happens in all BA. Sao Paulo got better because of the special police. Maybe Mexico is even more dangerous than BA. But here, you cant park your car safely, not anymore.

In Korea you can pretty much walk any street at any time of day/night. The Crime rate is pretty low. Of course that's as long as you don't count prostitution. Which is both illegal and completely acceptable. This country has the highest rate of prostitution in the world. It's also illegal to cheat on your spouse here, which to me just seems like a way to ensure that only the men get to cheat.

Of course there are other crimes too, like illegally hiring foreigners without visa's to teach english... Hey look, I'm part of Korea's seedy criminal world! (I'm typing this from a kindergarten I work at)

Here in Canada theres barely any crimes

Ciudad Juarez is pretty bad. I think there were over 1,000 murders last year. Every time I turn on the local news, there's just another killing spree in Ciudad Juarez, and most of those killed are police officers. Where I live, which is close to that city, is not bad, but it's slowly getting there. Many of those drug dealers and gang members are coming over here.

@Jo21: Oh yeah. Panama and some places in Central America are in serious problems concerning crime rate. But I'm not exaggerating, BS AS is probably the most dangerous city in all America. Drugs are destroying the low class.

i know but went over nuts with goverment we are on now, the good thing we have elections in may, and the opposition its quite strong.

oh yeah, I forgot about drunk driving. I'd asked some students once about laws people don't follow (we were talking about laws like spitting and throwing garbage on the ground) and they all said "Teacher, the law says you shouldn't drink and then go driving... NOBODY follows that law!" And it's true. The traffic accident rate here is monstrous. The culture supports binge drinking (you can get drunk off a one dollar bottle of soju, mostpeople here drink 3 bottles), and the subway in my city closes at midnight. One reason I was given for that was so drunks don't take the subway and get sick on it. Oh great... so they can drive instead!
