Forums - Gaming - "Lets just stop making new games"

I wasn't paying attention last generation, but this time around, I have never seen such contempt towards making new games before.

I know it is costly to make new games which are unproven in the market place, but complaining game creators make it seem like it is virtually impossible. Maybe it is the stunning emphasis on porting that has people going nuts, but the lack of enthusiasm towards making new things is startling.

Nintendo is a culprit of porting (no matter how much I like them), Square Enix (can't even talk about them), and the all-frustrating Capcom.

That is not to say Nintendo won't make no new games (absolutely not, they were just mentioned because of their porting), but Capcom is a standout company/team/crew/whatever, that has made it seem like making new games is a dumb idea.

That is why I encourage innovation more than anything, and respect devs/teams/publishers/crew/whatever, that don't put themselves in a position where they must rely on old habits that would otherwise cause them to "die hard" if they didn't have them. I like sequels and stuff, but don't complain about new IPs.

Around the Network

I think it's merely all three publishers taking advantage of a situation, based on the similiar hardware tech in the Wii compared to last gen. They were given an inch and are taking a mile, Capcom especially. I don't think it's some fundamental shift in thinking. It'll change back if the moment ever happens that all three consoles get back to the same specs.

In defense of Nintendo, they are throwing out a lot of sequels and such but they're also throwing a lot of new IP's out there as well.

In defense of sequel after sequel, new IP's just don't generally sell as well. It's a sad fact of the industry.

Unfortunately, most of them are only released in Japan.
