Forums - General - Firefox Addons

Until recently, I only ever used AdBlock. However, upon going to install AdBlock on another system (See: the one I'm using now), I came across a few others that I liked. Many of you've probably been using them for a while, but I don't care.

Anyhow, yeah. I'm currently using AutoPager, DownloadHelper, and Twitterfox (although I prefer Tweetdeck for my Twitter tool).

AutoPager will automatically load the next page in a series of pages (IE, next page of a thread, next page of a Google search, next page of friends on Facebook) when you reach the bottom of a page. No more looking for the button for the next page, no more waiting for it to load (because it'll probably already have loaded while you're still looking at the content at the bottom of the screen), etc. It's nice. I recommend it to ALL.

DownloadHelper, I haven't even used yet. But basically, it lets you download videos/songs that normally don't have a download function. Like Youtube vids that you decide you like, or that song from MySpace.

Twitterfox just lets you do Twitter without having a tab open for Twitter. It doesn't have that many functions or options, though, so I don't see it as that wonderful. It IS nice for when you don't want to switch windows/tabs to check that update someone just said (watching a long video on Youtube? See that someone just updated in Twitter? Don't want either to wait for the other? No matter).

AdBlock, you all should be aware of (and if you're not, wtf man). It blocks any images you don't want to see. Does that guy have an annoyingly long sig, but you like having sigs on? Adblock it! Did that chick's sig almost give you a seizure? Adblock it! With Adblock, you don't have to view any images you don't want to.

ps: Although Adblock blocks images, if there was a link involved with that image, the link is still active. Thus said, I still regularly click the important links, involved with certain images on a certain website, on a regular basis. *ahem.*

...So, which do you use? And why?

ABP, that's it. I might have to check out Download Helper though.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)
Nintendo ID: Mako91                  3DS code: 4167-4543-6089

NoScript. It allows you to manage which sites are allowed to runs scripts, which has two benefits: reducing advertising on those sites where you want (beyond what AB can do) and protection from malware.

IETab. Switches the page renderer to Internet Explorer. This helps with some pages that don't display correctly or are difficult to use in FF, and means you don't have to open IE and navigate back to the page when you encounter it.

Stylish. Uses user-submitted CSS styles to alter the look and feel of pages. You download styles from their website. One drawback is that only popular sites tend to get styles submitted.

That AutoPager looks good. I'll try it now.

My friends that use it seem to think of it as a boon. And I distinctly recall wishing I could download videos from Youtube and never being able to. This would be wonderfully useful.

Also, presently, AutoPager doesn't work with VGChartz. In order for it to work here, someone has to write the programming for it to work, and I don't really understand how to. It's not that simple. =/ If anybody around here understands it, it'd be WONDERFULLY appreciated if they could write the XPath for this site.

The Autopager looks good, but when I'm living at college our internet is pricey so I wouldn't want the autopager. For someone with unlimited broadband it sounds very cool. I use

Coogle (colour codes google search results)
Full screen homestarrunner
Foxy Tunes (control itunes etc from FF)
Linkalert - Tells you if the thing you're clicking on is a download, and if so, what type of file
Site Delta (highlights changes to site since last visit)

and a few others

Oh, and Torbutton. Use the Tor network (similar to a proxy) with zero effort.

Coogle doesn't appear to work with FF 3.x.

I use Fast Dial and AdblockPlus.

I'm gonna check out NoScript and IETab. Stylish seems like a waste of time to me, personally, so I'm gonna pass on that one.

This seems to me to be a waste of time, also. All you have to do is find the URL of the .SWF and view the .SWF directly. It's instantly fullscreen by default, and that applies to all sites - not just HSR.

Yeah, Coogle got disabled actually.

Let's see, I use:

Adblock Plus
Noscript
Rinkaichan (translates Kanji by mousing-over, indispensable when I browse japanese pages)
GTranslate (adds an option to use Google Translator in the contextual menu, great because it auto-recognizes the language)
Fast Video Download (I only turn it on when I need to download videos)
And a Calculator addon that sits in the status bar opens with a click, stupid but more effective than opening Wincalc every time

Thanks for suggesting AutoPage and IE Tab, will try them now
