Forums - General - Please tell me you're watching DAily Show

Because he is destroying Mad Money host Jim Kramer's career.

See the whole interview on thedailyshow.com

OMFGOMFG, it's really really disturbing.

Jon Stewart was showing footage of Kramer advising people to do illegal stock trading. WOW, where do they get these clips!??!?!

Around the Network

snap. I'm not at the moment. Will later.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Meh, the Daily Show isn't bad but what's really funny are the people who think it's real news.

twest whats funny is people like you who try to discredit the show.
Why don't you try watching this episode and see exactly how hard hitting it is.

Yes it is comedy, but to say that the pieces they run are doctored or made up in any way is ignorant. Things that they talk about actually did happen. But instead of the report sounding something like an essay it sounds more like a conversation.

EDIT:PLUS most of their news comes FROM news channels. You can see the emblems. Jim Kramer went on the air in an interview and said "oh so I'm getting attacked by a comedian now? What does he know, he runs a variety show"

THen Scarborough says "Maybe jon stewart can tell us what the market is going to do for the next 5-10 years, it's terrible that he will cherry pick someone's mistakes and then make a face resulting in a pavlovian laugh from the crowd."

Then last night he had Kramer on the show. He showed clips that people didn't even know existed of Kramer talking about insider trading and illegal trading activity in futures and highly recommended it. The question is, how do you trust people like scarborough or kramer or these "news sites" when they are completely selling you "snake oil".

You do know the Daily Show only shows news clip they can make fun of correct? That means if you get your news from the Daily Show you're only watching bad news clips.

I understand that someone who only watches the Daily Show knows more about the world than someone who watches no news show but that still doesn't make it a credible news source.

Around the Network

I don't see the daily show as a "news show". I see it very much as a comedy show about news and politics, commentary mixed with jokes. I see it as extremely biased, goofy, satirical, comedy, but most importantly it wears that on it's sleeve. It never stops reminding you that it is liberal comedy. Something alot of news outlets fail to do, wear their biases on their sleeve. On occasion Stewart manages to really kick some ass, or take somebody to task or show the ridiculousness and hypocrisy of the "serious media", but for the most part he's a clown. And that doesn't bother me because he lets everybody know up front that he's a clown.

If Rush Limbaugh did that every episode, or anybody on fox news, I think it would be easier to not be disgusted by them. If somebody is going to be an ass, just say upfront "I'm an ass, and I'm just messing around, don't take anything I say very seriously, but every once and a while I'll make a point". So, no I don't watch the daily show for "news", but I do enjoy watching it every once and a while.

Wow, dude it's a comedy show, no need to defend it's credability....because comedy doesn't need to be believable.  Sure the stories they cover are based in legitimate news but the content is not selected on the basis of keeping viewers informed but rather amused and entertained.  As a result you should always question whether you've heard the full story from them....or better yet just enjoy the humor and look to other sources for your news.

I watch the show and it is funny, he has mastered the art quite well and the results speak for themselves.  But with that said the Daily Show should not be the basis for forming an opinion about a topic any more than Red Eye is.

In this case I don't think they are too far off the mark TBH, all of these guys who pick stocks and tell people to buy or sell are full of crap.

My take on the situation is pretty simple, Cramer got on Stuart's radar after his criticism of Obama, that part is pretty much a given since Cramer was a nobody before his comments and who cares what a nobody got wrong?   Once you're on a comedian's radar he is going to do any material about you that he thinks will get a good laugh.  Stuart probably thought he would get one segment out of it and that's it...but Cramer being insecure fought back which told Stuart he struck a nerve and that there was comedy gold to be had by pressing the issue.  At this point Cramer is doing it to himself by engaging in it and not backing away from it, I have no sympathy.  He should have laughed it off and ignored it, now the wound is going to fester because he took it from a short segment on TDS to media brawl which people won't forget any time soon.

To Each Man, Responsibility

@sqrl
It wasn't just kramer, it was the entire NBC network that was making it a big deal.

@twest
I totally understand that he only shows the bad clips, he doesn't deny doing that. But that doesn't mean that the clips don't exist, as people often try to make it seem.

The clips he shows happened. And he brings up serious questions as to whats going on. That guy that accepted the 700billion dollar bailout said he wanted nobody to know what he was doing with it, no trace, he was going to disappear with the money and that was it.
Jon Stewart was the only one who ran his quote outside of political arenas and inner sanctums. It was on no other news shows and it does really bring up the point "why the fuck are we giving this guy 700B and trusting that he will do the correct thing."
This is the kind of thing that happens on Daily all the time.
What you guys also need to understand is that news media is a very powerful group who can and will show only one side of the argument for whatever reason at the drop of a hat, you are no safer from bias.
I don't use Daily show as my only source of news, but I don't discredit anything they have to say, because it is merely a news show from a non-mainstream point of view...

EDIT: i prefer the BBC myself to american news media outlets.

@sqrl

I am not really defending the show as much as I am defending my thread from twest obvious trolling of it.

I've never said they don't exist, I'm just saying it's not a news show.  Yes, it shows clips from the news but if that makes it a news show can I call something like the Soup a political news show since it also shows clips from the news?

I'm also aware be brings up serious points every now and then and good for him, still not a news show though.

My original comment was just laughing at the people that actually think it's a news show and actually think they're informed because that's their source of news.

Trolling how?  Saying I don't like the Daily Show because I hate politics and it's not real news?  I suppose I am going a bit off topic but that's hardly trolling since it's rare for a thread with more than 15 replies to not have something off topic.

It's the internet, people are going to talk about what they want to about and that's that.  As long as they aren't actually trolling or barging in a thread posting lolcat pictures and at least staying close to the topic, whatever.

-edit #2-

Besides, the thread title says "Please tell me you're wathing the DAily Show" so I'm simply telling you why I don't watch it.  If that's trolling then you my friend have a trap thread title.
