Has anyone upgraded their PS3 HDD with a 750GB one?

I have the opportunity to purchase a SATA 2.5 750GB relatively cheaply but I am not sure if it will work. Googling came back with "yes you can"/ "no you can't, the max is 500GB".

The disk is useless to me otherwise and I wont purchase it unless I am sure.

I got a good deal on a PlayTV addon so need to know if I should get this or purchase a 500GB (that will strangely enough cost more) to record stuff on.

Thanks.

I have done it twice now and do not know of any size limitations. Although, I have yet too find a HDD available bigger than 500GGB. Well even if it doesnt read any bigger than 500GB, if its cheaper than a 500GB wouldnt it still be the better deal?

Perhaps you could format 500 gigs to Fat32 and the rest to NTFS. Don't know if that would work though.

It cant be any HD it has to be a laptop one. Also when you backup your data the external you use an HD that reads FATS files. If you're having trouble finding one here's a cool tip: You can use an Ipod to backup the files. Thats right I saved my files to my Ipod. But the older Ipods not the touch.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@Vetteman94 (and everyone else)
I am awaiting email confirmation of size and model of the HDD, I had never heard of 750GB 2.5 before either.
Are you confirming that the 500GB worked?

@KylieDog
You know what they say, "the bigger the better". I suppose I can also record a whole lot more digital TV content.

Yes, look at my sig

^^Duh!! Got me. I usually ignore sigs.

It's been cleared up. The 750GB is 3.5" which would explain why it was cheaper. It was incorrectly listed as 2.5" in the original txt.

I will get the 500GB as it is still a v.good deal.

I intend to follow these instructions (below) later tonight.

If you dont mind me asking,  how much is a good deal?

@kyliedogg

Record 250 or 420 more gigs worth of stuff.

@Vetteman

I don't mind. It's the Seagate MOMENTUS 5400.6 500GB SATA which - I was told - retails for about £90.00. I am getting it for £55.00.

If you are non-european I don't know if those figures will mean much as you will probably pay more/less depending on where you are from (or taking into account the exchange rates) for the same item.
