March 9, 2009 - Falcom is bringing back Ys (pronounced "ease") in a big way this year. At a fan event held on Saturday in Tokyo, the company made a more formal announcement of Ys 7 and also made first mention to the mysterious Ys I&II Chronicles.

Nothing specific was revealed on the two titles, with Falcom instead telling attendees to wait for future updates through its website or through magazines. The company did distribute a flier, though, which housed the text "Ys Evolves. From Ys I&II Chronicles to Ys 7." Below that were release dates for the two games: Summer 2009 for Chronicles, and Fall 2009 for Ys 7.

Japanese gaming site Dengeki Online managed to get a few more deatils on Ys 7. The site learned from Falcom staffers that the title will feature, as usual, Adol in the main character role, and will tell the previously untold story of the Five Great Dragons of Altago. Fans of the series might recognize this passage, as it has been mentioned in past games.

As for Chronicles, not even Dengeki provided a hint as to the nature of the game. We're going to suspect another remake of Ys Book I&II.

The Dengeki Online report also made mention of a full feature on Ys VII in an upcoming issue of its sister print publication Dengeki PlayStation. Is this an indication of a PSP or PS3 release for the game? Falcom has been expanding outside of the PC market through the PSP of late, so a PSP release for at least one of the two games would not seem too far fetched. We'll let you know if we hear anything.

I myself think Ys games are hit or miss but this game will be on my radar.

Maybe DS too as it would be a smart decission sales wise. Though I found this on IGN in PSP section so natually I put DS PSP and then it mention of PS3 so I added that as well. This will not sell millions but it should do pretty good, especially for handhelds.

Agreed, PSP looks more likely now though, then again games like Enchanted Arms and Eternal Sonata came to consoles... so who knows?

Why not? Disgaea 3 was on PS3 and it didn't sell millions but did good. It's not like all PS3 games need amazing graphics. Since they are so excited to announce it I think its possible. Though PS2/PSP wouldn't be bad either since I can play the PS2 version on my PS3 anyway. So win/win for me at least lol.

Keep in mind most of Falcom's games have been for PSP and PC.

PS3 exclusive ROFFLE. Falcom has not made a console-exclusive Ys game since Ys V on the SNES. That was over 10 years ago, BTW.

Here's my guess:
Ys Chronicles -> PSP
Ys VII -> PC

Yes true but we can hope for another PS3 RPG. But if it does come out for the PSP/PS3 I will get the PS3 version just for the Trophy Support.
