Forums - PC - Any PC gurus here have answers to Get Civ4:BTS to work?

Again I try to run and load the game.  I put expansion disk in and run it.  After it sits there for a minute to a minute in the half, I get this as the error message:

AppName: civ4beyondsword.exe     AppVer: 3.1.3.1     ModName: ~df394b.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0     Offset: 0007965a

And the bugger crashed, didn't even load.

You can see some answers I got in this thread:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic/browse_frm/thread/72608a28f2a793d0?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=beyond+the+sword+~df394b.tmp#b28e6bc30d86e1b8

And this thread popped up on it:

The thing about Civilization IV is that it is very sensitive to patches. Often, if I did not patch Civ IV before trying to install BTS, the BTS installer would crash. I would start by patching Civ IV manually from an installer downloaded off the internet. Do not use the in-game patcher; it will only cause headaches.

Whenever you manage to get Civ IV installed and want to play an online match, message me. Always looking for players.

Did you upgrade your DVD drive's firmware/ drivers as was suggested in both threads?

Well I found my problem...apparently I needed the updated driver for my cd/dvd drive. I thought it was the video card (ATI) that needed the updated driver but upon contacting 2K they instructed me to find the most current driver for my cd/dvd drive and that fixed the problem.

If not, then have you tried a no cd crack?

I would of did the DVD drive firmware/drives update, if I could find them. Google searching is fruitless.

What about your manufacturer's site- have you contacted them to ask? What model is your DVD drive?

If you can't be faffed with that, just get a no CD crack from GameCopyWorld.

The manufacture's site has nothing on the DVD driver update at all.  I am tempted to do the no-CD crack stuff, eventually here.  Last one I saw had RAR compression format.

There you go then. Although seeing as it seems such a big deal to you, I'm surprised you haven't given your PC manufacturer a ring or an email.

Gateway tech support is useless on this.  You get the, "Contact the publisher of the game" and the publisher tells you to contact Gateway.

Play Alpha Centauri.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Yeah yeah.  But I want to play around with the mods.  I could play GalCiv 2, if I wanted to do an alternative, or Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic also.  But I want to play the mods!
