Forums - Microsoft - People are actually buying Halo Wars not knowing that it's a RTS

When I was 9, I didn't have a computer, access to the internet, or any magazines, but I knew when a game was going to change the formula a little... With a name like "Halo Wars" it just sounds grander, like halo but on a bigger scale. If I could do that when I was 9, then somethings wrong if people can't do that today.

Is anybody surprised? Halo is one of the most casually successful games of recent years. People have Halo parties just like they have Mario Party parties. Of course people would buy this without even reading it. It says Halo on it. I'm sure they buy the game, reload by sucking down some gamer fuel, and then turn it on and get so confused they cry and return it.

Halo Wars has hit one million unit sales worldwide, making it the bestselling strategy title on the Xbox 360, according to Microsoft.

Since the game's initial release last month, gamers have gone on to play more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches over Xbox Live, amounting to 118 years of combined time, with an average of more than 200,000 users playing the game every day.

The title marked the demise of Ensemble Studios, which closed its doors after the release. Robot Entertainment, an independent studio created by Ensemble's co-founder, Tony Goodman, has since formed and stepped up to take over the continued support of the title.

Seems like not only did they get duped into buying the game they then started playing it too.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

LOL. Tricked them into playing it daily.

Not shocking at all. There are people out there who don't know that the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games. uninformed customers are everywhere.

The real question is whether or not it is intentionally misleading on the publishers fault or not. In the lady's favor, the commercial does not show any gameplay footage, and when you see Halo you see shooter. But the lady should have checked the back of the box, or asked a question. Oh well.

We have had a lot of people do this actually. I even had my friend do it *face-palm* Despite what most people think many "over active" gamers (I'll avoid the term hardcore) such as most people on this site research games. While many standard gamers just hear its coming out and buy it based on brand name. I would say about 1/3 of our sales have been based on the fact that people think it's an FPS.
