Capcom's Keiji Inafune discusses how supporting the Xbox 360 was key to the company's recent success in the Western market.

In spite of the platform's relative lack of success in the Japanese market, Capcom has made a push over recent years to support the Xbox 360 with titles aimed specifically at Western gamers. In an interview with Capcom's PR, Keiji Inafune—head of R&D and the brain behind the likes of Mega Man and Dead Rising—revealed how the console was key to the company's recent success in the Western market.

"I think I can only get away with saying this now, but I really thought that using the Xbox was the only way to break into overseas markets, and I took that hypothesis all the way," Inafune said. "I think the success of these two titles (Dead Rising and Lost Planet) was a major achievement for our company. That the Xbox 360 was such a big hit, and the products that we made for the overseas market were so well received was extraordinary."

This could also explain the reason for Lost Planet 2's possible exclusivity on the 360 console. Its nice to hear why Japanese developers are developing on the 360 instead of the usual "money hatting" comments from PS3 fanboys.
