Forums - Sony - Interesting new PSP-4000 details emerge

Is it so crazy that I still prefer owning games on disk rather than by download? If the 4000 rumors are true, I hope there's still enough older models available for UMD users.

No not at all, I by far prefer to have hardcopies. Besides its easier to show off your collection that way! lol

so how is the gamer gonna play current games without UMD drives?

Good question - I suspect games will be downloadable from PSN.

Sven from Capcom said all their PSP games will become available on the network.

That still doesnt answer the question. Thats cool and all for new releases but what about all the games already out that ppl have bought? I dont want to have to buy a digital copy of a game I already have on UMD just so I can play it on the updated system.

I suspect PSP-3000 and PSP-4000 will co-exist, especially since Hannah Montana PSP-3000 will be available from July.

But if you want to play UMDs, just keep your older model.

ANOTHER redesign? Good grief. :p

The old system would probably continue to be sold along side the new one for a while.  But when you wanted to get with the new times, you can eventually upgrade.

Digital sales are eventually where everything is gonna go.  They might still sell games on a physical memory card, even for decades to come, like drmaster2 might prefer, but I for one will be happy to not have to haul games around with my system.

Cheeper games, all your games on your PSP or on one memory card.  PSP-3000 shoulda been this way.

I don't get why they'd abandon UMD now..especially not in a PSP-4000, maybe the PSP2..I'll wait until official details are out, but abandoning UMD to me doesn't make sense.

They might very well release some kind of UMD converter to PSP/PC drive for maybe around 20 bucks, like the one that converted PS2 Memory Card save data to PS3 save data.

I know. They should stop it. Stop all the redesigns. I hate them!

Still, I kinda love them.

You know.

Touchscreen I assume?

If a new model of PSP comes out without UMD drive and does not support playing current games, it's essentially PSP2 regardless how it's gonna be called. There is no home console or handheld machines that ever stop support its own games after a redesign.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
