Forums - Sony - GT5 Prologue Not Free: Available on Blu-ray and PSN

Hmmm from how I read that, it never said the PSN would be a charge for it. The BD I can see having a charge as those disks aren't cheap.

The game will hit the region in late 2007, will be downloadable via the PlayStation Store or purchased at retail on a Blu-ray Disc,

Just my interpretation of it, but I could be wrong.

The real driving simulator that’s sold 50 million units is back: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Polyphony Digital are pleased to announce Gran Turismo™5 Prologue, a prequel title showcasing the forthcoming Gran Turismo™5 for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) – available both on Blu-ray disc and as a download from PLAYSTATION®Network (PSN) at the end of this year."

Thats the beginning of the press release.. where does it say charge? It says available on the PSN and Blu-ray. I can walk into EB and they randomly have demo discs in the front, both CDs and DVDs with the installs for trail software and game demos for PC. Why cant they do that with a Blu-ray disc?

@JJseth - they aren't that expensive to mass produce either 100,000 discs costs 1.40 each disc while 50k would cost $1.60 each, more produced cheaper they are, why do you think regular DVDs are so cheap, mass production of millions of discs.

Doesn't sound like this will be free. If it would, there is no doubt Sony would HIGHLIGHT this in their press release.

Expect it for $10-$15 as a downloadable, and maybe a little more as a BluRay purchase. Its still a good price for what it is.

(with GT4-HD for free, it makes even less sense for this to be completely free).

Wait, why do people expect this to cost less than the GT4 Prologue when it offers much more? GT4 Prologue was $20... why are we expecting this to be less again? Do you think Sony suddenly stopped loving money?

You're wrong. Bluray discs are not cheap and they are not distributing this game around EU only to put it on PSN for free. That just isn't going to happen.

Expect this to cost $30 and have the same rules as Warhawk.

I might also point out that this is SCEE talking. This game might not come to the US at all. Sony said that they are evaluating the situation to check public interest. Since Japan and Europe are the focus of this game, I definitely don't expect a US release this fall.

Why is it so awful for Sony to try to make money selling this? Sometimes I just don't understand fanboy logic. They want Sony to do well, but they also want everything for free or below cost.

It's true that those aren't that expensive anymore but it's still over 10 times more expensive than producing DVD. You can mass produce DVDs with about $0.10 which is almost free. Even I have bought DVDs with $0.30 from normal store and mass producing drops the price a lot. Not saying distributing Blu-rays for free isn't possible but it's still more expensive than distributing DVDs.

purchased = bought

retail = a store for the general public.

Do I need to define the word "at". Not free for download either. Wow, they found a way to turn GT5 into 3 purchases for me, plus costly downloads. Still buying, I am a tool.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

German GIGA TV showed an interview with a Sony representative at the GC stating that Prologue will be not more than 40, eventually 30 Dollars oder Euros (can't remember the currency anymore).
