Hey guys. I bought Star Ocean: The Last Hope yesterday, and I'm not that far in the game (I think). So, on the second planet, I got the Bandit's Glove and the Pickpocket skill, and it says in the description that something bad might happen if you do it too much.

I wonder if anyone that got far in the game already and used the skill a few times knows what this "something" might be? Also, I know some NPCs can give some good equipments and materials for item creation. I also wonder if some of them give "one of a time" items? I hope not! I guess they only give items you wouldn't be able to get from monsters early on in the game?

I'm too scared of the consequences of pickpocketing. :(

Easy solution... Save before doing it and try pickpocketing as much as you can to see the consequence, if there is one.

Since I don't have the game, I dunno the effects of it.

I tried pickpocketing from everyone in Triom and Woodley (I think that's how they're called), but nothing special happened after that...

I have to say that I didn't go back in my ship and try talking to the party members in there. Maybe it would have triggered something?

Too bad all my saves are in the third area of the game...! >_>

In SO2, the affinity to your party members would drop when you pickpocket. My guess is that it's the same for this.

I heard it was OK to pickpocket during Personal Actions in SO2... But PA's in this Star Ocean only occur on the ship when going to a new planet.

I guess that before going to the next area in the game, I will try to pickpocket from people again and then go. I'll see what happens then!

wtf... pa's only happen ... on the ship?... whhhaaaaaattttt?...

Oh... and maybe one other area on the first planet with Commander "My hair is purple".

Hmmm, just to update:

Apparently, on GameFAQs, someone said that they found treasures chests that were already open. I found one like that too, and I didn't pickpocket anyone... so I doubt this is the bad effect.

Also, I tried doing what I wrote a few posts before this one, and no special dialogue appeared. It might influence something later on in the game, like the ending(s)... I'm not going through three discs to find out. Guess I'll wait on my next game, maybe someone will know what it does by that time.
