I don't think that will ever happen. However, if it did, that would be fantastic for me.

I've been reading about how "angry shareholders" will force Microsoft out of the console industry for eight years straight now - but it's always Nintendo/Sony fans who post it, never actual Microsoft shareholders. Is there any evidence to support the assertion that Microsoft shareholders are that unhappy, or is this just wishful thinking?

No, Nintendo won't be the only company, but other companies will rise and be brutally crushed by Nintendo only to shuffle off a broken and beaten husk of its former self, happened to Sega and is happening to Sony right now

Nintendo was never the only company even when the video game market was several times smaller than it is now. How could they possibly get a monopoly on the market now? The market is massive now and still growing despite the recession, if anything we may be getting more companies trying to get a piece of the pie.

I have just three things to say.

1) Everyone predicted Sony would take over this gen because PS2 was dominating so forcefully last gen.

2) Nintendo may be leading the pack in hardware sales, but third parties are clearly rebelling against them. Even this year while many of them are turning to give Nintendo some focus, they aren't giving them total focus (or even primary focus).

3) Even if MS and Sony dropped out, someone else would try to make another console, just like all the others have in the past.
