Forums - Gaming - Future: Nintendo could be only video game seller and have monopoly

Consoles will become extinct before that happens... I am one of the people who believe that everything like consoles will eventually be compressed into the PC market.

As a software developer I am grateful to nintendo for slowing down the pace. Clearly PS3 was a bit of a hack job to get it as powerful as it is. I have worked with Windows before, I can tell you it isn't pretty working in a shitty hackjob. I haven't worked with a console before, but normally what I can do in 2 lines on a well built and well thought out platform, I have to do in 40 lines in 4 different places on a hackjob one... Which seems to be the case from what I hear.

You are one of the people Nintendo is trying so hard to prove wrong, and they have been doing so since 1984.

I think if we are going to have a monopoly, than Nintendo would be a better option than MS or Sony. Reason is, that right now Nintendo has the only console which offers Games for everyone. Maybe they are a little bit weak on the "mature" side, but this changes right now. And if the other two consoles disappear, than third parties would fully move to Wii and there would be even more "mature" games.

Were am I suposed to play Gran Turismo then?

:/

Same place you get your Sonic fix!

There will definitely always be another competitor, but it always makes me laugh hearing all this "I'll quit gaming" bullshit. Would all the franchises currently on the HD consoles just vanish into thin air? No, they'd be on the Nintendo console, obviously.

If this did beocme true then Nintendo would pick up all the ps3 all the 360 games form the 3rd parties so I don't see how that is scaring people from a console.

The thing that probably will happen that shoudl be some what of a concern is that the leaps between consoles will be smaller. Or the ocnsoel will last 10-15 years before soemthing awesome comes out again. This will be the big problem not LACK of games.

So true. The "I'll quit gaming" poeple are the same kind of people who, in 2004, said, "If Bush wins the election, I'm moving to Canada."

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

My Aunt moved to Canada after the 04 Election o.O

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I don't think it would be a problem. Most people refer to Nintendo's last evil tyrannical hardware and software monopoly as "The Golden Age of Gaming."

So... there are no problems.  Great.  We'd all be a lot better off if we didn't have to buy a new console every 5 years.  Hell, as it is every one of the big three wants to extend this generation to twice the length of previous ones so that they can make more money and produce more great games.  Sounds fantastic.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Console gaming would be dead if that happened.

Nintendo = the worst of the 3 console makers.

I'd have to become a PC gamer.

This.
