Forums - PC - I have sound card issues, Please help

I have an older computer.  Out of the blue, my speakers quit working.  I've checked the speakers and they work fine when connected to something else.  I replaced the sound card and I still have the same problem.

When I go to the control panel, the device manager says that the sound card is working properly, however, no sound device is detected.

I've installed the new sound card with the provided cd, and having Windows search the internet for the proper drivers.  Still the same result

Can someone please help.

Did the problems occur when you installed XP SP3 ???

I'm not really sure. I don't pay much attention to what the updates are. It started about 2 weeks ago.

I tried a system restore to a day that I know the sound worked, but this did not help.
