And game wise?

GoW 1 ~ Linear button smashing with bosses.
GoW 2 ~ Linear button smashing with bosses.
GoW 3 ~ Linear button smashing with bosses?

Uhm...

Yeah, same can be said for example about GeoW serie(Linear hide&seek shooting.) too, but anyway as long as mainstream crowd is full of graphic whores this will continue. /me shakes his head

Anybody who has played God or Titan difficulty understands that button mashing gets you creamed. *shakes head*

I doubt you could even button mash your way through Spatan Mode (Spartan = Normal, right?). I love God of War, even if I suck at them. :P

@Christhor

Spartan was normal difficulty for GoW2 but hard mode for the original and Chains of Olympus.

All you do in Mario is jump (although spinning/fireballs/etc. are only extras), and most people enjoy that more than any hack'n slash game.

Video gaming is nothing but a bunch of button mashers.  GOW is no different then any other hack'n slash, fighter, platformer, FPS, adventure game, they all result in you mashing some amount of buttons to perform some on screen acrobatics.  As the video game industry has shown time and time again, more complicated games are not always better.

Show me strategy game that you can play by just mashing some buttons. ;)

Aww, hence one of the reasons I purposely did not mention strategy, PNP RPGs, etc. when I was listing the applicable genres.  Maybe I could have worded it better, but details often lack when one is in a hurry.

@largedarryl

You misuse the term button masher. If I can't press the palm of my hand into a controller and mash buttons with some measure of success then I don't call it a button masher. You can't mash buttons on a controller/keyboard in any FPS without getting shot in the face 99.9% of the time. Only a handful of fighting and hack 'n slash games allow any degree of mashing and success in doing so is typically only obtainable on lower difficulties.

I'm playing God of War I for the first time right now.
