Lets look at it this way.

Ninja gaiden is extremely hard, but hell the flying swallow can kill pretty much everything you encounter very quickly.

God of War has many different combos, sure you can mash buttons but that wont be the best way to play it.

Ninja gaiden II, I did nothing but spam whatever triangle is on the 360, i forget. I killed most baddies and groups of baddies very easily.

God of War II, Still button mashing as some people claim, but I played through some really fun puzzles.

Oh, everyone has to remember. God of War II came out near the end of the PS2 life cycle, Many people didn't buy it because they were waiting for 360/PS3. I bet God of War III Will sell over 5 million life time. Feel free to quote me on that if you want. But every single person i know that plays games loves god of war.

The wall trick worked in some places in the first Ninja Gaiden / Black, but you still have to block a lot of stuff (and of course you can't use it on many bosses).

As for NG2, you may catch one enemy with that but others will be throwing crap at you, attacking you or grabbing you. Again you can't win fights without blocking (which requires reflexes) and using movement in a smart way. The safest/easiest move I found was to jump and do a slashing attack while falling, but even this is not foolproof at all. You'd be getting explosive shurikens, they can still grab you and the dismembered enemies will still do their "kamikaze" attacks on you.

If what I said doesnt work, why did I beat the game?(in 2) Also the flying swallow can be done from a regular run. In the first one it would just behead half the baddies in one attack. If you kept the dragon sword upgraded. Trust me, every single game can be dumbed down to button mashing. thats what games are(other then the wii) you just press buttons to do differnt things.

Which is why the first comment was an ignorant, uninformed one designed to incite.  If you break games down to their common denominator every one of them is simplistic.

I assume you were exaggerating... Even if that did work as you literally said it, why would someone want to spend a few hours finishing a game in that way?

What I am saying is, if you just button mash in God of War, then I just button mash in Ninja Gaiden. I was basically showing you, that your logic is flawed. Also Ninja Gaiden hasnt sold as well as GoW or scored so well with reveiwers. So if it was "orginal" then I guess people dont like that.

Dont get me wrong, I love NG, but its not as good as GoW. That being said, Onimusha was the best action adventure game series ever! Then DMC, then GoW. :]

Probably to prove the point that it certainly could be done responding to the fact that you said this :

You are the fool here. Go button mash in Ninja Gaiden / Ninja Gaiden Black / Ninja Gaiden 2 and see how long you last even in easy mode. I'd say you won't even pass half of the first chapter, quite likely the first batch of enemies will cut you to slices.

@Sharky54: I'm just doubting your words considering almost everyone who has played both games says that Ninja Gaiden is much harder. In fact it regularly figures among people's lists of the hardest games. And then you come along and simplistically say you only need one button to pass it. Again I doubt that, but I will do some more experiments tonight :P

Even if it was possible to just use one button, timing is still very important in NG2. One of the good examples is the boss in chapter 2 (the final one, who can kill you in two or three moves). How the hell are you going to pass that one without precisely timing your attacks?

@Rpruett: Well that's extremely sad if true. I suppose that's not why he did it.

I never said it wasn't harder then GoW, it is by far yes. But thats mealy because the baddies are OP and just absorb damage. The triangle will grab them and just fuck them up after they lose a limb. With the claws its easy enough to knock a limb off. I didn't go through the entire game this way BTW. But it is possible. Whenever I was tired I would do that. Most people don't want an impossibly hard game either. Why did GoW 1 sell more then NG1 and 2 combined?

@Sharky54: I'm not debating sales or appeal here, I'm debating the button mashing issue.

For reference to those who haven't played the game, this is the boss which I was talking about. This is on the second level mind you...

Button mashing in Ninja Gaiden 2 my ass!

I beat him by just dodging to the side whenever he attacked and mashed X(i think that the button on the left?)

Yeah but that's easier said than done for most people... How many times did you die before beating him? Of course if you play a lot of games in this genre it gets much easier. Though this is one of the fastest ones so that alone doesn't do the trick.

In any case, your strategy doesn't really qualify as button mashing in my book. For me, button mashing consists in just getting near an enemy, mashing some buttons (sometimes without even knowing the move patterns) and with nearly 100% probability will kill him without getting much hurt. Almost no blocking or dodging needed. There are games which can be mostly passed by doing that, while in NG you can at best barely pass the first batch of enemies with this strategy.
