The reason why Bioshock, Gears of War and Forza Motorsport (maybe also Oblivion) have crapped out so many consoles is being their use up a lot of GPU power thus the console gets hotter compared to if users would play simple XBox Live games such as Pacman or Geometry Wars. |
MikeB. Did it ever occur to you that the reason why Bioshock, GOW, and Forza Motorsport were reported as the game being played when the console broke was primarily because they happen to be highly sold titles, quite popular to play, and recent titles meaning they are more likely to be in use? Obviously XBLA games are often not pushing the GPU at all but saying one of these titles bricked the console is just indicates cluelessness. ANY of the major titles out there are going to be pushing the GPU enough that it will produce the same heat. FEAR, Condemned, Darkness, Lost Planet... pretty much any of these and other major titles are "pushing" the hardware GPU.
Also, posts on the web are worthless, statistically speaking, and with the total number of failed consoles only a fraction actually end up posting on forums. I wouldn't go around quoting a few people in forums about failed consoles while playing a specific game. If a million users bought bioshock last week, they are likely playing it and whatever percentage of hardware failures happen this week are naturally going to be highly concentrated on the title du jour.
