Forums - PC - PC Puzzle Quest: Galactrix is proof PC gaming is worse than console gaming

After reading reviews of both games, and seeing that the DS version of Galactrix would be both $10 more, and also be like the original Puzzle Quest as far as interface go (plus the reviews saying there was more screen scrolling), I decided to get the PC version of Puzzle Quest: Galactrix.  This game is very much like the original Puzzle Quest, with some additional game modes, and a bigger game world.  I thought it would be the same.  Well, I go and buy it at Gamestop.

Well, after having the PC version play for a few hours, the game froze up and crashed.  This didn't happen with the DS version of the original Puzzle Quest.  And this again reminds me why I avoid PC gaming.  The crashes and freezes go with the territory, FAR MORE than console games.  I should of waited for the 360 version to hit Marketplace.  Oh well, live on.  Will see if they get around to patching it.  Maybe they will sometime.  Maybe it will work on my PC.  Who knows.  But I have to say this reminds me why I am pretty much done with PC gaming.  You get a box of put luck.  And the PC uberman on here can go suck on this awhile.

Oh, did I mention the crazy long load time?  It was about 5 times longer than it took to start up my DS version of Puzzle Quest.

Please keep in mind, there ARE places where the PC currently is better than consoles.  It usually is in the area where consoles are lacking in game genres.  Unfortunately for PC gaming, Puzzle Quest: Galactrix isn't one of those areas.

actually the ds game did freeze up on me. didnt stop me from booting it back up and playing another 10 hours though.

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

How is a single game crashing on a single user's machine proof of anything other than the game might have bugs or the machine not be set up correctly? Especially when it appears the DS version has the same problem?

For what it's worth, consoles and PCs should be seen as complementary rather than mutually exclusive and fanboy attitudes left at the door, but then I guess level thinking and tolerance aren't exactly hallmarks of the people on this site.

its more a reflection on the game. it was one buggy piece of shit that i loved to death.

Consoles are much much worse, because crysis have never crashed for me and bully is very unstable on X360.

Seriously, you can't compare two different games like that. Btw, I had original Puzzle Quest for PC and it didn't crash or freeze single time.

Take the case of Civ4. The expansion for it, Beyond the Sword, doesn't work on my laptop due to the DRM they have on it. And the trend continues with other games also.

What 'trend'? A buggy game that locks up occasionally, and what sounds like a physical media problem (given that I've never heard of 'disk wright protection')? Yeah, you're making a great case there.

I think he means the DRM write/read protection they used to stop people ripping it.

And if you don't do a BIOS update or some other thing that has NOTHING to do with the game, then it doesn't work.  Like in the case of Civ 4, EVERYTHING else worked but the last expansion.  So, you go and plop money down, and it doesn't work, and you can't return it.  You can't even trade it in.  You can try to sell it on EBay and wait a money for everything to clear and so on.

And I did mean DRM.  Which, I will need to fix.

So basically you ran into copy protection problems. You have my sympathy, although I have no idea why you thought you needed a BIOS update. I'd have just downloaded a no-CD crack for it. And why couldn't you return it? If it doesn't work, then it's not fit for purpose- I wouldn't have left the shop until I'd been refunded.

So we're back to a buggy game and one which didn't agree with your hardware. Hardly compelling proof I'd say.
