Doom metal is my genre of choice. Can't top Vitus, Pentagram, Electric Wizard, Sabbath, etc. I also listen to some thrash, and a fair bit of stoner rock, if that can be considered in this discussion.

Also, whoever said Rust in Peace is the best Megadeth album, I totally agree. I always wonder how it's possible for me to love an album so much from a band that I consider to be generally terrible.

Black Sabbath is Traditional Heavy Metal. :P

If Ozzy-era Sabbath had to be put into a genre today, it would likely be Doom Metal. I always classified Traditional Metal as NWOBHM bands like Maiden and Priest.

Black Sabbath started Heavy Metal. You cant start with doom metal and work backwards :P

I realize that that they started every genre, and back in the 70s when the only metal genre was "heavy metal", that's the label that they were given.

Today, with so many different metal genres and styles, it's much easier to label them as doom metal, since according to the progression and seperation of each genre, that's what they play.

Many of their songs have happy sounding music though. Listen to their first CD. You cannot tell me thats doom metal

Evil Woman was a cover, and I agree that their fist CD wan't very doomy with the exception of "The Wizard", but "Paranoid" -> "Sabotage" are all pure doom records.
