Forums - PC - Help with Linksys router!!!! Please help!!!!

Well when you plug in the cable to your not-working router, does the PC go through the "acquiring IP address" stage?

Around the Network

It keeps trying to find the IP and it doesnt find it.

I did ipconfig/all and it said the IP was 0.0.0.0.

It had a DHCP number 207.0.1.14 or something (I tried using it on the browser but it didnt work either).

I have read about giving my PC a static IP or something. Would that help?

And how do I undo it if it doesnt work?

I have been reading online and found out that since the power light on my router is blinking that the firmware must be corrupted.

Is this right?

That would probably be what happened.  I would do what Kyliedog recommended, and perform a hard reset of your router.

If the firmware is corrupt, you may want to call Lynksys support to find out if there is a way to recover from a corrupt firmware upgrade.

I did try the rest button but it didn't work.

I found someone online saying how to, but it didn't work either.

I dont want to call Linksys support cause I am not in the US. So I wanna find some answer online.

Well some quick searching shows you should be able to get the router to upgrade through a TFTP server.

This website goes over your series of router, and section 8 appears to have everything you need to get the TFTP server setup on you PC so you should be able to get the router to load the appropriate firmware file from your PC.

EDIT: Oops, that one isn't what I was looking for, give me a second and I might be able to see if recovery is even possible.

Okay, well according to the manual of the router, you should be able to follow the instructions found here, on page 45 (51 of 70 in PDF terms) on how to recover from a failed firmware upgrade.

http://www-id.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobheadername1=Content-Type&blobheadername2=Content-Disposition&blobheadervalue1=application%2Fpdf&blobheadervalue2=inline%3B+filename%3Dbefsr41V3_ug.pdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1130840373764&ssbinary=true&lid=9972327262B04

Follow those instructions and you should be good to go.

Thanks largedarryl. I did manage to find another guy's site where he said step-by-step how to fix it. And it worked. Now I am online through the router.

Thanks a lot for all your help.
