The biggest problem is that many people seem to feel the need to go on the defensive or the offensive, depending on what has been said.
During some spells, it seems rather obvious that certain gamers are more heard than others, for whatever reason that may be (pride that good games are coming out, annoyance that no games are coming out, certain rumours, feeling the need to just give an opinion about which ever game they have played and so on).
However, many posts often boil down to some hard stance on the consoles, whether it is deliberate or not.
I have a PS3, thinking of getting a 360 when one or two more games to my liking come out for it (Fable III, don't come out until I get enough money >_>), but I often find myself trying to counter notions that I believe to be far-fetched, unlikely, wrong and such, said by others about the PS3 or its games and such.
I'm quite sure that many of the other posters do the same for the 360. Because I hardly comment on the 360, and - if I do - not in the way that I post about the PS3, it becomes easy to categorize someone with a certain faction, when they might not attempt to belong with that faction (ps3 fanboys / ps3 "fans" / whatever...).
And once you are perceived a certain way, it's easy to start thinking "oh ow, they're at it again" or "they are becoming louder" once you see the name of the poster.
If we take the KZ2 example: Some people will automatically start comparing to GoW. Whether it is better or not, is not the point. Others will then either join in in the comparison, or oppose it (while not necessarily being anti-KZ for example), however, for some reason, it's often very black-and-white on this site. So once people put you in a certain position, no matter which actions you take, you are often kept in that position, because it's easier to retaliate against. (especially when the same people are the ones who keep replying)
Claiming "fanboy", "biased", "troll" is then often the way to go, making normal conversation very difficult, because both sides often stick to their guns, and because the repetition of those conversations often lead to nothing, it does seem as if a certain faction is becoming more active or not.
After KZ2 dies down a bit, this should be remedied because there is no reason to oppose each other again (and often resort to the "You're a fan of... therefore"-reasoning).
So even if the OP is right with the more active participation of 360 "fanboys", it all depends on the spectacles with which one is viewing the "fight".
ps: not included actual fanboys, since those are often best ignored.
