Forums - PC - Video card help

Right now I have a crappy old desktop that shuts down randomly. And whenever I watch a video. It has an on board videocard. I believe that the card is the problem

1 can i use a regular video card?

2 Do I need to do anything special?

3. Whats a decent gaming card for 75-150 dollars?

EDIT

Turns out my motherboard doesnt have a PCi-Express.

I have a Pentium 4 in here, will this motherboard work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128072

Also what else do I have to consider when picking out a cheap motherboard?

That motherboard is fine, I checked the reviews and it has been used for the Pentium 4 processor. It has decent reviews and being Micro-ATX it will definately fit into pretty much any size case you might have.

Do you have a power suppy which provides a 6 pin PCI-E plug? If your PC is store bought probably not, so you would be restricted to this option

$90 for a slightly faster version of the HD 4670

$77 for the normal version of the 4670

Both cards can be used without the 6 pin PCI-E plug.

Tease.

I am not sure about the power supply, I have to ask my brother when he gets home. Would I be able to install a 20-60 dollar video card on either of those? I want to be able to play at least some older games.

EDIT, Ohh those are video cards. How will they run games from like 2007?

That HD 4670 is pretty fast I use one myself and it performs excellently on smaller 22" or below monitors.

It has twice the shading power and thrice the texturing power of the Xbox 360, so its not a weakling. Its the best performance you can get without a PCI-E 6 pin power plug.

Hmm, sounds good. Can it do AA? lol

Yep, but only in older games because it doesn't have the memory bandwidth.

how well would it run bioshock? and if i decided to, how much would a new power supply with this 6 pin thing cost me? lol

Before I tell you about power supplies, what type of memory does your computer use? Is it DDR 1 or DDR 2?

Tease.

It uses DDR2

ewww 4600 series...if ur gonna game for the same price...i'd rather much go with a 3800s....or spend a bit more and get 4800...

the 3800s are much better buy...as they outperform the 4600 in every way....
