You're just about alone there Legend11. It was given many perfect and near perfect scores in 1998 so I don't know how nolstalgia affected the scoring.

Nostalgia from the previous Zelda games.

If it was nostalgia then it would have scored lower because LttP is better...

As for knocking it out of the top spot, I doubt it'll be Phantom Hourglass. Some people are just walking in hating the game due to the touchscreen controls, and I'm pretty sure some of those few won't give it a fair chance.

Zelda Wii, on the other hand, I think has a shot, since this is supposed to be the "reinvention" OoT was to the series.

well, Metroid Prime and RE4 are bpth near the top, and they were released recently.
im sure if OoT had 50 reviews, back in 98' there was no comparison. Bioshock on the other hand is an FPS that we've all seen a million times before

Well, considering that site only seems to have given one 10 in its history (RE4) I don't think a 9 is a bad score.

As some might of said (or maybe not?) the problem with a game ever beating OOT is that it's impossible. There ARE better games out there than OOT, but the advantage is that OOT had 23-ish reviews that were glaringly positive. Bioshock already has double that, and climbing. The more reviews are out, the lower the mean score will be. Look at Gears of War: At one time, it was well above Oblivion in average scoring (around 94.5%), but is far lower.

IMO, I don't think, even if they are great, most any other game this year, save possibly SMG, will remotely get into the top-10. Look at Zelda:TP. If it can't do it, I don't hold out alot of hope for others.

Why? Your always going to get your stupid scores to ruin the averages. Twilight Princess got an insane 8.8 - that totally ruined the score. All it takes is a bad impression from 2-3 reviewers to ruin an uber-score. Which is what's happening to Bioshock. The fact that Bioshock is near 50 reviews, and STILL on the top 10 is a marvel.

I agree completely.  Also I agree with Claudelv150 there and sqrl except for the completely insane part about Zelda:OoT doesn't deserve to be #1.

I agree with both of you. Also, with this 9, I think Bioshock may drop out of top 10. It got an 8 from Edge which has yet to be applied... if both are applied to the current score I think that may be enough to knock it below 95.6%

Edit: It really pisses me off that Halo (a mediocre shooter to anyone who has ever played a PC shooter) stays in the top 10 while something groundbreaking like Bioshock gets knocked out.

Bioshock is not comparble to OoT so lets stop this line of discussion right now. Bioshock is an awesome game and probably GoTY but it is not an all time great like OoT.

@Mrstickball,

Allrighty then. Lets take away any game that has been reviewed by less than 90 people. Whats on top now? Metroid Prime. With Resident Evil 4 in second, and Halo in third.

Also, I think Phantom Hourglass has a chance. 39/40 from Famitsu-better than TP. Gamebrink reviewed it higher than TP.

In addition, OoT has 32 reviews and Bioshock has, curretnly, 36. I understand the number will grow, but they are not double as of right now. Just fixing the exaggerations.

It pains me to see Metroid Prime above RE4. Personally, I can list about 30 games I think are better than MP but I will acknowledge that it's a good game, just not top 5 IMO. I would probably put it around 11-15... Probably close to Halo.

If this thread turns into a "What I believe the Top 10 should be", we are going to be here for a long time.

LOL, I like the game and I have beaten it many times but I am not convinced it really is the best game ever.  Hell I have even beaten the master quest version a couple of times.  On my list it would probably be #3 behind Prime and San Andreas.  Obviously thats opinion, but I truly loved SA and it never gets enough recognition in my book .

I also wouldn't have Soul Calibur anywhere near the top 10, but I don't like those games much =)
