PS3 still the best console for the Tekken 6

Tekken has been with PlayStation since the beginning. I even played Tekken 1 at the arcades. So I’m a die hard Tekken fan. I was a little saddened to see Tekken 6 being released on the 360. But I’m happy to see that the PlayStation 3 is still the lead platform.

“The game was programmed on PS3 architecture and specifically designed to make full use of the Cell’s SPU. So it’s going to be a big challenge to bring the game to the Xbox 360,” Harada said. Tekken 6 capitalizes on the PS3’s power, and by capitalize, I mean running on 60fps.

“After releasing Tekken 6 in the arcades, we developed an updated version called Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion. When we developed the update, we overhauled the graphic engine and created new shaders,” he said.

I’ve talked to a couple friends that have played Tekken 6 at the arcades and they are both amazed by it. Graphically and gameplay. The arcades in my state are horrible, we don’t even have Tekken 5 DR anymore!

There are also rumors of Sony trying to snag exclusive DLC for Tekken 6. I hope that’s true. Tekken owes it’s success to the PlayStation brand. No word on what the DLC might be.

Katsuhiro Hirada: PS3 is still the best for Tekken 6

It is a well-known fact that the Tekken series grew up on the PlayStation, and it sometimes feels a little different that the latest of the series, Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, will come to both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

But according to Tekken 6 project lead Katsuhiro Harada, despite the loss of Tekken's PlayStation exclusivity, the PS3 is still the best console for the latest Namco Bandai fighter.

"The game was programmed on PS3 architecture and specifically designed to make full use of the Cell's SPU. So it's going to be a big challenge to bring the game to the Xbox 360," Harada said. Tekken 6 capitalizes on the PS3's power, and by capitalize, I mean running on 60fps.

"After releasing Tekken 6 in the arcades, we developed an updated version called Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion. When we developed the update, we overhauled the graphic engine and created new shaders," he said.

 Furthermore,

In doing so, we had to make sure we could implement the graphic effects we wanted while still maintaining 60 frames. This is something that is extremely difficult to pull off, and there weren’t many examples in other games. Tailoring the programming to make the most use of the Cell’s SPU allowed us to achieve the results we were aiming for.

Sweet. 60fps huh? I just got even more psyched about Bloodline Rebellion coming. I just hope they stopped nerfing Nina. Hahaha.

so will ps3 gonna make this game better cause so far Tekken 6 looks like crap no matter on which console it would be played - in both visual- and gameplay- wise aspects:/

I played Tekken 6 on arcade in Tokyo last summer. It haven`t evolded a bit since Tekken 5. I really hope they work more on the console verions.
Look at Street Fighter IV. That`s something new and fresh.

Isn't it the other way around? I'm pretty sure Sony should be thanking Namco for giving them Tekken and Battle Arena Toshinden instead of going over to the Saturn, where a trifecta of those two plus Virtua Fighter could have slowed Playstation performance immensely in the early days when not much else looked very good and fighters were everything.

I don't believe Tekken owes it's success to the Playstation brand. AFIK, it was a popular arcade game before it was on the playstation.

There is not enough information on it right now for me to make a decision about which system I will get it on. I'll take a closer look at the game when the release date approaches. I own all the Tekken games on the playstation systems, but I have more friends on Live.

There's not enough love for racing games here on VGC. Don't forget about Ridge Racer, another important Namco franchise.

The fighters were more important back then. However racing games like Ridge Racer and Daytona USA would come in second in importance. It was Namco going over to Playstation with two desired fighters that helped seal the early fate of the Saturn.

Man I miss arcades. When I was a kid my mom would take us to Wal mart and we would beg her to give us money so we could play Tekken 2. those days were great, nobody called you a bitch or fag like they do online, it was "good game" or "play again?" Man what I would do to have those days back. Great times!

It's a two-way street. PS owes some of it's success to tekken as much as tekken owes some of it's success to PS. PS was successful because of a wide variety of 3rd, 2nd and 1st party games. If tekken was out of the mix, it's possible that a few million people would have purchased the saturn (if thats where it went) but I'm pretty sure the numbers won't be significant enough to have altered the outcome of that gen.

In the same vein, if tekken had gone to saturn not PS, it probably won't be as popular as it is today...that's the point of the article
