^this is the interesting point, the criteria thats says a small croatian website has as much value as the UK Teletext service and IGN is obviously crap. Its subjectively chosen. Both Gamerankings and Metacritic are owned by a division of Cnet, doesn't sound like theyre too independant from each other.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

are you a gamer who agrees with flawed aggregated scores, or do you just enjoy games for what they bring to you personally as a gamer?

Watching people argue over them amuses me.

Want to see the real difference? Just compare 360, PS3 and Wii reviews. See how much green there is for each systems reviews.

The library on the Wii and PS3/360 is quite different, so the comparison is meaningless.  Should a reviewer rate an average shovelware game the same as a game with lackluster gameplay but otherwise high production values?

I think it's pointless to criticize metacritic. People use it, and will always use it. Even so called "hardcore RPG fans" who say that they dont care about reviews were dancing around Persona 4 metascore. It's funny how after that these same people dare to act like reviews dont matter to them.

Reviews matter to most of us, in one way or the other. It's funny how some people are affraid to admit that because apparently "paying attention to reviews = not a true gamer".

in my opinion an "AAA" title is a title a publisher puts nearly unlimited faith and money in (most of the time these happen to be reviewed very well)

real AAA titles of this gen: Wii Fit (might even border to AAAA), Killzone 2, Halo 3

Skeeuk:
Since you go and check out industry reviews it means you care. Metacritic aggregates the scores from a ton of publications and calculates a weighted mean value. They do not give scores themselves unless the review has no score (very rare if at all possible for games), in which case they give it one based on the said review. There is no mentioning of A, AAA, BBB, DDD-, WOOT, WTF or any other such lettered categorization of games on the whole site. There are 3 colours and some icons to help the reader get a first glance idea. Luckily, the site provides links to the articles where possible, a summary, and the grade that each game received in each review.
There is be only one problem with the score calculation, and that is the weight that they give each reviewer/publication/site, which they do not disclose.
Other than that, the score is just an industry wide median. So practically, their own weight in the final score is possibly 5% if that.

It's unfair to bash someone for something they are not responsible for.

Edit: removed some bad textures, aplied AA.
