Forums - Gaming - Real Talk with Snake612: Interview w/ BengaBenga, music videos and more!

Welcome to the 13th edition of Real Talk with Snake612. Today is February 19, 2009. My thread is going to be very short but great. I will give you the interview with BengaBenga as soon as he answers the questions. First, I want to make a statement regarding my time being on VGChartz.

Here's my statement:

I came to VGChartz on May 7, 2008. At first I wasn't sure about the website or anything but a good friend of mind encourage me to go on a website that is great for gaming. Now, when I mean gaming, I mean a great website where I can have discussion about games and consoles. I never thought that I would be getting into discussions about the sales of games or the weekly sales of consoles. After awhile, I became in love with the website. I made great friends. The problem I have is once something is going great for me I always have to screw things up someway or somehow.

That pretty much explains why I was in a hurry to make a name for myself on this site and get everyone to like me. Instead of me to just enjoy this website, I rushed into everything. That's why it may have seen I was acting like an attention whore. The thing is I didn't attend to be an attention whore, I just wanted to make a good name for myself. I started making all these "I am leaving VGchartz" or "I am deleting my profile next week" threads just for people to try to people know just who I am. I guess it was the wrong way to go. I am not going to say sorry for the things I have done in the past but I am going to say I am human. I will make mistakes and of course I will put people down at sometimes in my life. There are going to be times when I want to gain attention. But hey, Can really anybody on this website or on the internet for that matter say "I never try to gain attention"? I think not.

I am going to continue to make Real Talk threads and as I make each thread, I will improve on every thread and try to take your responses in consideration regarding these threads. I will no longer try to promote Real Talk. Real talk will become popular or not on its own. I will watch what I say more carefully on the threads I post in and threads I make.

I have four or five more people to interview for Real Talk. I will do all those interviews next week "Real Talk" threads.

I hope enjoy this thread that I am about to make. So stay tuned for more Real Talk.

I will keep updating this thread. The interview with BengaBenga is coming up soon.

Alright I am still awaiting BengaBenga for the interview. While your waiting, please enjoy this music video I chose.

Alright, I hope you enjoy that video. Well, you guys said you want to see more games. Well that's what your going to get.

I just found the video of the XPlay review of Street Fighter IV. As much as I dislike hearing Adam Sessler make his reviews on his games, this review wasn't that bad. CHECK IT OUT!

I watched  the video and I actually agree with the review. Street Fighter IV might turn out to be the best fighting game of 2009!

Now I have another music video to show you. I like this video because its kind of retro and reminds you of the classic game "Asteriods". Here's NERD with "Everyone Nose Remix"

Alright, It turns out at this moment that BengaBenga has yet to answer my questions. So I will put this thread back up in an hour. So I will be back in a hour.

Alright so my good friend BengaBenga finally answer the questions. So here's the interview. Enjoy!

Real Talk Interview with BengaBenga

Snake612: Why do like vgchartz?

BengaBenga:Don't know why, but I came here and really liked the community. Obviously I'm interested in the numbers and the site is awesome, but it was the community that really did it for me. I never was active on internet forums before, but something about the atmospehere made me sign up and become active. I'm glad a lot of people from the beginning are still here, while others have also made a stunning entry (and sometimes exit, lol).

It's also great to see the progress VGC has made in just two years. From weekly Media Create and monthly NPD numbers to our ownweekly worldwide data that's really making a name in the videogame community.

Snake612: There have been talks about updating the website, and trying to improve the website. I heard nordlead mentioning a VGChartz 2.0. What would you like to see on vgchartz improve? What are the new features you want on vgchartz?

Haha, obviously as one of the staff I know, more or less, what's coming but I'm afraid you'll have to wait until Brett is ready to show it to you all. It will be great though. A great next step for VGChartz that matches the rocketlike entry we made into the videogame internet community. It's really only 2 years since VGC really started off.

Snake612: Which VGChartz users do you like and dislike?

BengaBenga:I like a lot of people, too much to mention but I'll try (sorry if I forgot anyone):

First of all Brett. I think it's incredible how he made and maintained this site in his spare time.

Obviously the staff is awesome. Have a lot of good contact with these guys. Special mention goes to TalonMan who really is a genius! Oh and TheSource, he always sends me the most hilarious YouTube clips.

- Kirby007: I can't help but like the guy. The fact that he's Dutch helps as well.
- RolStoppable: Funniest man on VGChartz. His old threads did cause massive stirrs on the site. Now his reputation is working against him. I can remember I locked one of his threads he asked someone else to make for him.
- The Mario Kart guys: Sorry I haven't joined in a long time....TWRoO and Rol were just too good. It's funny to see Kirby is an idiot online as well.
- Rocketpig: He still has the cape... and writes the best editorials.
- NJ5, FishyJoe and BKK for well informed discussions.
- All the guys in the Fire Emblem threads: Riot o/t Blood, Words of Wisdom, Zen, DarcRequiem....etc oh and Rol again. (I should marry the guy, lol)
- Soriku, Maxwell, Elgefe and all the others in the great contributor team.
- And all the Dutchies on here!

Probably a lot more. As I mentioned before, the community here is great.

I don't hate anyone. I don't like the word either, but I do get annoyed sometimes, as most people that frequent the site might know. I really can't stand the anti-Wii attitude. Just because it's something different doesn't mean it's bad. The worst thing is the elitist attitude that it sucks that everyone and his mother is having fun with the thing.
I'm absolutely fine if it doesn't have the games you like, sure. Just don't buy the thing, but don't act like your gamergod opinion is more valid than that of a 12 year old girl loving WiiFit. Cause that girl will likely be the hardcore gamer of the next decade.

I also don't like people bringing uninformed, emotionally driven opinions into fact based discussions. Mainly threads about earnings.

Snake612: You use to make this weekly thread on VGchartz called "The Week That Was".Is there a chance we will see a revival of that thread?

BengaBenga:I'm absolutely honoured with all the PM's, emails and wall posts I get regarding the Week That Was and it will surely make a return, hopefully soon. The problem is that I'm looking for a good format. With the console wars more or less over there's less obvious spectacular and humorous things going on to write about. Hereby a call to everyone: please make more funny gifs and/or jpegs!

Also I have started doing a lot of other things for VGChartz since last year and I have a full time job, which makes it hard to write these articles.

But I promise they'll return!

Snake612: What game are you excited for in 2009?

BengaBenga:Oh, so many! Top of my list is Resident Evil 5. I wasn't very impressed by the demo, but Resident Evil is my second favorite series and I really want to know what they did to the story. Especially since RE4's story didn't really fit into the whole RE universe. So yeah, only 2 more weeks!

I'm glad both Tales games have been announced for Europe (finally. Sometimes I wonder whether Europe is a third world country, but no-one bothered to tell us).

I'm curious about MadWorld as well.

Furthermore I hope we'll see stuff like Muramasa, Arc Rise Fantasia and Kizuna, but that's unlikely for this year. Luckily we have Star Ocean 4. As you can see I quite like JRPGs...

Oh and House of the Dead: Overkill is a must have!

Snake612: What was your favorite thread of 2008?

BengaBenga:Although I beat twesterm for best thread and most humorous thread of 2008 with my DMeisterJ caught cheating (is that why he left?) I have to say I love the demotivator thread. I was reading it during work, but I had to stop every other post, because I was literally laughing out loud. And I'm in an open office environment...

Snake612: What can Vgchartz expect from you this year?

BengaBenga:I hope a lot of stuff you like to read! First of all like I promised above I'll bring back TWTW in some shape or form. I'll continue doing the VGC Most Wanted, which is a success. Thanks everyone for voting! Every month now the voting has increased. Great! I'll also be keeping the "Wii games in 2009" thread up to date.

Furthermore I'll be reviewing some games (HotD: Overkill will be there soon).

And in April you can expect a pretty lenghty in-depth article about the financials of the three major players over the last 10 years. Should be cool. And we'll be doing the first ever "VGC best games of all time" very soon, in which all members can (and hopefully will) participate.

And I hope a lot more. Definitely will do some industry interviews and maybe E3 and/or some other game shows. Last year DKII did an amazing job at E3 and this year you can expect much more coverage from LA! I hope I'll be there, but if not I'll definitely will cover Koln (the European show).

So I hope to be contributing a lot to VGC. I'll also be picking my article titles a little more carefully.... my inbox was flooded with hate mail about my "Sony spin in overdrive" article. Personally I think people are overreacting about an opinion, but I do understand that people feel a bit offended. But hatemail really is a bit over the top....while at the same timethey forget I did an interview with Little Big Planet (a little refresher: PS3 exclusive) developer Media Molecule.

Please be very blunt with all your answers and just let me know exactly how you feel. Don't hold back!

Hope you like it. I wanted to put more time in it but it's 1 at night here now...I'm European... and I saw you had the thread up already so wanted to get it to you in time. (Please feel free to edit grammar/spelling errors)

Cheers, Benjamin

Thank you BengaBenga for that very much delayed interview. I am just kidding. Well that concludes this episode of Real Talk. I will have more new threads next week. Next week I will be interviewing Garnett, ssj12, zucas and the source. Next week is definitely going to be jam-packed.

ITS BEEN REAL! Goodnight Everyone!

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Enjoyed reading the part about why you do what you do. I also enjoy the "Real Talk". Keep em coming, Snake!

Generic statement of friendly support Snake!

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Street Fighter IV might turn out to be the best fighting game of 2009!

not with out being able to smash up cars and other things like the older SF's why would they take that out i loved that part of the game

I think that many on here are not really concerned with people liking them very much outside of their "Fanboy club" If you really do that should make all the difference. Keep up the good work.

I agree with the pink ball

But yeah, you're doing a good job with the real talks, keep it up!

I watched the Street Fighter IV review twice! I may end up saying F' my car payment tomorrow, and just buy a new 360 and this game. The temptation is definitely there!!

(not a big fan of the PS3 SF HD experience, compared to the 360's)
