I'm more impressed by the number of new customers the sale brought in, since those people will very likely buy more games in the future and add a lot more to Valve's revenues.

According to Steam, and I will have to check this out later in the day, L4D only has this many people online right now:

I really wish Valve would give actual sales numbers.
Great news, I picked it up and love it. I really hope Valve decides to follow suit with other great titles in the future.
The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.
Valve deserves it. I really hope impluse and Gamer's gate cn keep up. I doubt gamer's gate can though, since they just handed steam their most valuable franchise at a cheaper price than what their store sells it for. Hell, GoG has a better chance.
And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

1. The NPD will never be able to track DD sales as companies wont release figures. 2. 1.6 million sales is not much when you consider its Valve's game. So your last sentence makes no sense if your looking at it as if your meaning the 360 version has sold more than the PC becasue I have shocking news for you. It hasnt and never will unless every L4D compatible PC on this planet blows up in the next 10 seconds and every L4D PC user buys a 360 and L4D. 3. This brings me to my final point. If the PC version of L4D sales have reached, which isnt hard to believe, between 3 - 4 million copies then how can you say that the 360 version has sold even close to that? you can't. |
Again where are you coming up with these numbers? I'm not saying either one outsold the other because we ave no data but you seem pretty convinced. So where are you getting between 3-4 million?

And Left4Dead is at 1.6M in the 360, so do the math... It's like i said in another thread, Valve is PC first, 360 if they feel like it, and PS3 if Neptune crosses orbit with Jupiter... I have it on PC but the retail version, i don't trust Steam... |
L4D saw a 3000% increase on the Steam launch numbers.. not retail or console.
How do i know this? Well cause I did the math..

This is just valve proving that you can create a lot of money by giving something away for free if you're positioned correctly.

18k average at any part of the day is actually quite big. No one plays the same game everyday (except MMOers), and there's people that quit on the game or haven't been playing it recently, and others that are playing it offline. Also the average L4Der probably doesn't play more than 2 hours each time.
It's hard to imagine 18k can translate into millions, but if we compare to Quake Wars it would make more sense. At the same point in it's lifetime as L4D is right now, Quake Wars PC probably had around 300k sales and 11k logged throughout the day.
Now think about it: 11k a day translates to 300k... now imagine atleast 11k playing L4D at all times. If the average gamer aplys 2 hours, then:
(18,000 players x 24 hours) divided by 2 hours = 216,000 people on L4D every day... and if 11k is to 300k sales, then 216k is to 5.9 millions sold of L4D on PC.
This is not an estimation of L4D's sales. I only used it to as a way to show the magnitude of L4D on PC.

By the simple facts that have shown every other Valve game outsold its console counterpart and PC games always outsell their console counterpart.

Shio, you are stretching the imagination with those calculations you did.
Also, the publisher of CoD4 said the 360 version sold best. And until you bring concrete proof that the DD of that game increased the sales above the console counterpart, there is no argument.
