Forums - Gaming - Has HD Gaming Make You Appreciate the Beauty of the Real World?

I remember reading in the seventy sixth Killzone 2 thread about the particle effects and all the technology that goes into creating the immersive experience (it really is amazing though. Especially when you first land in the demo, all the grime, water droplets, dust, etc. Or when you throw a grenade), and the infamous GeoW vs. Killzone 2 through the eyes of a programmer thread, about all the technicalities that go into creating a suspension of disbelief.

So after playing an absolutely stunning looking game, and being wowed by it, have you ever felt weird when you walked outside?

GTA IV was the first game that made me feel this way, especially when I was driving in a car. I remember today, watching the lights of all the cars shimmer against the slick road, being distorted by every crack in the road. I remembered looking at every droplet of water that was picked up against the wind. I soon noticed that I was surrounded by thousands of blades of grasses, and millions of rain drops. That there was so much detail in the most miniscule of places in the background, whereas developers would of usually settled with low res textures.

You could look at games like Heavy Rain, and yet when you look out the window, or at your very own hand, and realize how far we still are from achieving photorealism. We talk about all the codes and programming that go in the video game world, and yet we take all the physics and laws of science for granted and everyday.
