Why do you ask ??? They managed to break their arm while fighting an arcade machine, if that kind of devotion isn´t hardcore, nothing is :) Now the machines are beeing pulled from the market.

and I don´t know if this means Japanese have weak arms or just build their arcades to hard, maybe Wii sports will improve this in time :)

I may well develop a fear of Japanese arcades. I happen to also have weak wanking arms and would not put up much of a fight.

How does forgetting to eat, sleap or drink make you a hardcore gamer ??? Well I get your point, once in a while you´ll hear about someone in asia dieing infront of a PC, it´s disturbing to see that people will put themselfs in danger because they are addicted to gaming. I used to hear jokes about how in the future games would come with a warning that virtual food and sleep will not compensate for the real deal, never thought it would come to this sort of thing back then. 

Those three poor Japanese guys really need to think of some good lies they can tell their friends, I sure as hell would never admit that an arcade broke my arm. Unless I was sueing for millions of course. I just hope none of them was tring to impress any ladies at the time, its hard to land a comeback from that situation.
