but as a programmer, I find what people like you do a complete disgrace. Sure I've pirated when I was young and stupid, but at least I grew up and learned from my mistakes. |
Everyone fends for themselves. Having an entire library of games for free is obviously appealing to many people, one shouldn't necessarily have to think about the programmers or developers out there to enjoy themselves, because they are not responsible for those people. People with greater conscience may have a problem with this, but forcing that morality driven opinion is too relative to state as fact. Crossing the street when the light is red is illegal, yet many people do it as well.

First off, just because people break one law, does not in any way make it ok for anyone to break another law.
Secondly, so you are saying it is ok to rob a store? People need to fend for themselves, so they should just take whatever food they need and run? What you are suggesting is complete anarchy with no moral restraints, which if that is fine by you, why don't you go try running your own village in africa, where the only law is the guy with the most guns wins.

Moral restraints are meaningless because morality does not exist as a universal code. Oftentimes people aren't restrained by their morality but rather by the laws that governs them, as we still unfortunately live in a society that enforces it's own subjective moralities through the legal system. It's not "wrong" to rob a store and nor is it "right" -it's simply an act until you create anchors of subjective judgments- however the law says it IS wrong so people don't do it because they have no choice but to obey or be arbritarily punished.
People tend to confuse legality with morality as if the two were interchangable. Law is a set of codes forced upon a society, as such it is absolute and one obeys it simply to avoid punishment. Morality is a restraint on an individual level, so it really should not be brought up in discussions assessing whether what someone else does is "right" or "wrong".
And since neither of us are lawyers, it's really pointless debating the specific laws pertaining to whatever issues we are discussing.
