obviously any argument I make will be countered by some illogical argument about how you aren't hurting anyone, or it isn't like stealing a loaf of bread, or some other crap.

but as a programmer, I find what people like you do a complete disgrace. Sure I've pirated when I was young and stupid, but at least I grew up and learned from my mistakes.

Everyone fends for themselves. Having an entire library of games for free is obviously appealing to many people, one shouldn't necessarily have to think about the programmers or developers out there to enjoy themselves, because they are not responsible for those people. People with greater conscience may have a problem with this, but forcing that morality driven opinion is too relative to state as fact. Crossing the street when the light is red is illegal, yet many people do it as well.

First off, just because people break one law, does not in any way make it ok for anyone to break another law.

Secondly, so you are saying it is ok to rob a store? People need to fend for themselves, so they should just take whatever food they need and run? What you are suggesting is complete anarchy with no moral restraints, which if that is fine by you, why don't you go try running your own village in africa, where the only law is the guy with the most guns wins.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I agree with what you're saying nordlead except robbing a store is different to torrenting a game that isn't in print any more.

Moral restraints are meaningless because morality does not exist as a universal code. Oftentimes people aren't restrained by their morality but rather by the laws that governs them, as we still unfortunately live in a society that enforces it's own subjective moralities through the legal system. It's not "wrong" to rob a store and nor is it "right" -it's simply an act until you create anchors of subjective judgments- however the law says it IS wrong so people don't do it because they have no choice but to obey or be arbritarily punished.

People tend to confuse legality with morality as if the two were interchangable. Law is a set of codes forced upon a society, as such it is absolute and one obeys it simply to avoid punishment. Morality is a restraint on an individual level, so it really should not be brought up in discussions assessing whether what someone else does is "right" or "wrong".

And since neither of us are lawyers, it's really pointless debating the specific laws pertaining to whatever issues we are discussing.

Totally agree with puffy. If Nintendo are not going to port these impossible to find titles, and they are impossible to buy locally in australia, then maybe this is the best option.

Your left with two options, buy it second hand from overseas, in which case the distributor and developer miss money they never would have seen, or torrent it in which case the owner doesn't make 10$.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

F-Zero GX (available on Ebay), Eternal Darkness (available on Ebay), Wave Race Blue Storm (not sure if its on Ebay au), Battalion Wars (not sure if its on Ebay au), Time Splitters (not sure if its on Ebay au), Killer 7(def. not available, US price is ridiculous)

A thread promoting video game piracy? So if you can not afford games go out and pirate them by any means possible.

Video game industry and all markets/ industries are struggling at the moment due to recession leading to job losses and many other terrible financial disasters.

In tough times we should be trying to support game companies by buying their products instead of piracy which is stealing.

Ironically, in a recession consumers have less money to spend as well.... Many people cannot afford all the games they want.

Wow two great posts by Megaman79 (Thanks man, I knew only Aussies would be able to understand the very poor level of GCN support) and then this.. Message to everybody: Read the thread before you post

Importing is ridiculous. I support purchasing legitimately if reasonable, but with games that are obvious collector's items and priced that way (MvC 2, new @ $134 on Amazon? Oy!), or games that must be imported to own, I have absolutely no qualms about piracy.

Btw, this argument about not pirating, or copying any media, falls on its ass when you consider how difficult it is to buy media from overseas or buy movies that are foreign or really old.

You can't buy alot this stuff and they arn't available in every country around the world.

Lastly, piracy is some bullshit government enforced system designed by rich mutha f---krs who want even more of your money.

Answer this question, Is it fair to pay twice the price for a Blueray version of a film when they already earned millions from the dvd version. Is it fair when the actors, producers and directors get no extra money out of it? Thats what the Actors strikes were about, maybe you could pay attention to that.

How much money do Sony, MS and Nintendo make of retro downloads and how much goes to the original programmers of these games? You don't know do you.

Reality is everyones getting fu--ed by corporate entities and THEY police the government who inturn police the public over piracy. Look at the big picture.

BTW i do not have homebrew but if i decided to get a game i couldn't find anywhere else, at a price i could afford (see india's cost for cinema tickets or consoles), then sure i would consider this option.
