Damn... that's going to be freakin sweet..

Mass Effect 2 Carries Over Your Original Mass Effect Character?

Mass Effect's two-disc Platinum Hits edition includes a nifty video documentary called "The Future of Mass Effect," which talks about downloadable content and what we can expect from the sequel.

The new DLC pack in development will add combat-oriented areas that the devs are comparing to "Fight Club" and Arena. More interestingly, though, the documentary mentions that BioWare wants the DLC to tie into Mass Effect 2. Does that mean we get to carry over our character from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2?

"Any saved game that you make from Mass Effect 1 you should be able to carry that same character into to Mass Effect 2," says the video at about 1:45. "You'll be able to take that save game and create a character in Mass Effect 2."

I wonder what he means by "should," and what he means by "create a character" if indeed you're carrying over a character that already exists. Maybe you get to make your character's kid to continue the experience?

A forum thread on Mass Effect's community board sums it up nicely (Cheers, Daniel!) if five minutes worth of video is too slow for you.

Bummer. When I score the PS3 version of ME2, I will not be able to import my 360 character.

Ah well. The best that usually comes from that are unlockable outfits and stuff anyhow.

1. Has this been announced for PS3?

2. If you have a 360 character from playing the original, why would you be set on buying the PS3 version and not taking advantage of the feature?

But I have 3 of them >_>

Former something....

They are just reconfirming what they said years ago, that we can import our old characters.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

It's still exciting they are talking about it closer to release. I really thought the feature wouldn't eventuate.

Doesn't offer much hope for a PS3 version though.

Awesome, I know they've been planning on being able to transfer your character for a while though. Either way I can't wait to play ME 2 its gonna be INCREDIBLE.

Nice to know the character or traits will port over, can't wait for ME 2.

But what if I made more than one version of Shephard!? I still think that your character in ME 2 is going to be made in a similar fashion to ME 1 -where you, more or less, fill out a questionaire.

It is beyond obvious that you don't have a Mass Effect character... You wouldnt dare to say such nonsense if you fought 60 hours to build a 60 level character.

Flamebait maybe?
