I've been wondering about the effects of the Prime-time update coming in a few months. It does seem to have a lot of the hallmarks of what one would consider to be a realistic system seller.
- Targets an untapped market.
- Little competition in this space.
- Similar games have sold over 1,000,000 (Buzz etc).
- Offers something new and interesting.
Obviously im not expecting this as a massive system seller, but a slow burn one because it takes time for word of mouth to spread about the service. (Though the better it is the bigger the effect).
It was originally set to be released in concert with the Netflix NXE announcement and I have always considered both to be synergestic in terms of family entertainment. We have seen over a million Xbox Live subscribers start using Netflix and they had the prerequisite of requiring a Netflix account.
So could Microsoft see an increased uptake of Xbox Live Gold subscriptions and overall console sales due to this service going live? This isn't hardcore, and its strictly mainstream as pretty much all game shows are. We have seen the popularity of the home quiz games so perhaps taking it one step further might be the key to grabbing a lot of peoples attentions. The ability to play in a Live quiz show seems to be something that would interest a lot of people IMO.
What do you think?
Tease.
