I have played my PS3 for 12+ hours straight. My TV gets hotter then my PS3. I don't see how people have such problems. Don't put something so awesome inside a tight place.

What did you do to yourself man? My ps3 broke out of warranty as well. Sony couldn't fix it so they sent me a new one. I only paid $150 for a brand new 60gb full BC ps3.

Sending it to a non-SCE repair service for them to break the factory seal and void your service option was not too wise.
$170 would have given you a refurb unit for an out of warranty console from SCE with little fuss. They're pretty quick too once that coffin arrives.
The only caveat for SCE repairs is that it CANNOT be opened/unsealed. That is clearly mentioned in the service terms.
Your other option is buy a mobo off Ebay from a vendor that guarantees it works (or a console with a dead BRD drive) and do the swap yourself. It's what I would do personally in your situation. I actually sent mine in for replacement, and now I have an extra 60GB PS3.
You could get more than $75 for it through Ebay since the mobo is not the only part that can break.
| docholliday said: I am gonna take a guess here and say you tried a 3rd party repair instead of sony??? I find it really wierd that a company would claim its unusable but still offer you money for it. My advice, have them send it back to you and and contact sony. |
Agreed.

I would consider that teasing if they didn't do it for free for me when mine broke.
Tease.
i can not understand why sony do not fix the machine even if you send it to an unofficial repairer. They still can fix it and charge you the cost. Or are they trying to monopolize the service with such methods?
And one more thing. I am a ps3 owner but due to the fact that i find better games on 360 and WII i am not playing sony's machine more than 10 hours per month. So if i start playing normally (3-4 hours straight per day) and my machine brokes, i can imagine sony will not fix it as a part of the guarantie. Well my quastion is : what about those cases that i own a faulty machine but because i do not want to use it now i will find out a problem 2-3 years later when i choose to play more and more with ps3. Bad luck i guess?
If a PS3 breaks down and it is not covered under warranty it will cost you a lot of money for it to be repaired. I would recommend throwing it in the bin instead of footing a $200 to $250 repair bill. The cost of repairing or replacing the blu-ray drive in PS3 or internal components combined with the labour costs make it very expensive. PS3 only has a 12 month warranty outside of that there is no warranty and you foot the bill for problems outside warranty period.
OP: I say accept the $75 offer from Sony.

I know you are a troll, but it was such a terrible response I have to say something.
The cost for ANY repair is $169 + tax, including labour, not $200 - $250. And you would throw it away? You do realize he could just get it repaired, pay the $180, resell it for around $300 - $350?
