Forums - Sony - editorial: "april 09 ps3 price cut almost guarenteed".

Very Very misleading title. I realize that the OP only copied the article but still, it's incredibly misleading.

Not only is the "almost guaranteed" part totally speculation and assumption on the writers part but he has misplaced several facts. David Reeves was also talking about the total games division when talking profits, not specifically the PS3 like this article incorrectly assumes.

A April price cut is very unlikely and doubly so since no big games to my knowledge are releasing in April. Sony may as well ride out the slow period of the year with their high price and drop in September with a big release.

Either way, a almost guaranteed price drop in April is pure BS.

i only copied the tittle it was the only thing that i think to put. i didnt know what else to put. jajaja sorry.

If the ps3 was making a profit, they've would made much more than a "slight" profit in Q3. They were raking in money from first party releases, third party software, and ps2 and psp hardware. The ps3 must've lost a ton to offset that.

Strange enough, this is the first time I agree with makingmusic476. Nothing else can't be said about this matter to point out the proof about price cut isn't really 'almost guaranteed'. However I will add that when we start seeing hundreds of millions profits in gaming division then there might be even some possibility for price cut. Before that it could be quite suicidial.

For the fiftieth time, here is the latest official information about PS3 profitability:

Q: My second question is related to Playstation number 3, the profitability is increasing, and when are you going to be seeing profit in the field of hardware?

A: If we base our projections on the present exchange rate to continue and if introduction of the 45 nm chips is fulfilled (it is being used in manufacturing already), but in view of that by latter half of next year, sometime there, I believe that we can see the improved margin and start to see profit.

Q: Point of confirmation, when you say later next year, is it later the second half of the calendar year 2009, or the fiscal year 2009?

A: Fiscal year 2009, that's March 2010.

Straight from Sony's financial Q&A session.

April 1 2009 price cut? :P

Well played.

I wonder if these price cut enthusiasts acutally understand that they're hurting the PS3. If people actually buy their prediction that a price cut is on its way, then they'll hold off purchase in anticipation of savings.

Just quoted to make sure everyone sees this. This obviously 'guarentees' that there is not going to be a price cut in April. Maybe not in 2009 at all.

Possibly. Then followed with a MSFT price cut in the Fall.

360 price cut confirmed?

Didn't Microsoft say if Sony cuts it's price, so will they.

In 2010 that is.

And I wonder if MS is paying people to spread these rumors.  It's not like it would be the first time.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

So once again we have proof gaming magazines/site should never let gaming journalists read earnings reports...
