Eating all the chocolate biscuits is a serious crime, but would you try and throttle your partner for doing so? A US man allegedly did – using a Wii Remote’s cord - after his girlfriend accused him of failing to keep his hands out of the cookie jar.

Daniel Alvarez, aged 21 and from Austin, Texas, was reportedly woken up by girlfriend Christina Alvarado, also from Austin, and charged with the serious biscuit-snaffling allegation.

Annoyed at being woken up and accused of such a heinous crime, it’s alleged Alvarez tried to choke her using the nearest possible weapon – in this case, a Wii controller. He put his knees on her chest to pin her down, she said, and then wrapped the cord tightly around her neck.

Alvarado is obviously a Wii Fit devotee though, because she was able to free herself from Alvarez’s grip – and the cable – and call the police.

She had a “faint mark” around her neck and suffered shortness of breath after the incident, according to a report by website Statesman.

Alvarez was subsequently arrested. He faces charges of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury - enough to put him in jail for up to 20 years, if he's convicted. The Wii Remote’s been charged with being an accessory to attempted murder.
