Forums - Sony - How well is Killzone 2 overshadowing Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4?

Killzone 2 isn't overshadowing RE5 and Street Fighter 4 AT ALL, unless you're a PS3 fanboy.

The only hype I've seen for KZ2 has been in these forums (I admit I don't got to many forums), but there's way more content being pushed on gaming websites for RE5 and SF4 (IGN writer VS Capcom Employee using one hand in SF4. Haven't seen any KZ2 vid's like that).

By the way, why would we PS3 owners want KZ2 to overshadow RE5 and SF4?

Guerilla will ALWAYS be making games for the playstation, but if RE5 and SF4 don't SELL well on the PS3 (perhaps due to sony fanboys labelling them crap. Mainly due to them being multiplat when compared to the "glorious" KZ2), Capcom will STOP MAKING GAMES for the playstation platform.

Are we that crazy to back an exclusive that we lose potential multiplatform games because of it?

I have yet to see anything about Killzone 2 andwhere but games related sites.

Ive definitely not seen any TV, Magazine or Billboard advertising.

I cant help bu feel this is going to flop compared to expectations. (Ie. it wont be a failure, but most KZ fans seem to think it's going to hit a 1:1 ratio with PS3s sold.)

I feel that it will probably do between 1.25 and 1.75 mill in the first month with a sharp decline after that due to there being absolutely no advertising in the mainstream media.

It isn't overshadowing them at all. Especially off the internet. Everyone I know knows about SF IV and RE5, some of them don't even have a clue what KZ2 is.

Also, SF IV a niche? GTFO. Seriously, SFIV has an animated movie mad for it, a live action movie being released, one kick ass collectors edition, the arcade sticks are sold out everywhere.

A few fanboys posting all over a few forums with multiple KZ2 topics is not overshadowing, it is spam.

As I explained before, people consider MGS series niche and MGS4 has sold around 4 million copies.  Sales don't seem to denote niche status entirely.  MGS has books too.  But when I mean niche I mean that it has a stalwart audience that doesn't seem to expand it's base very much with every new iteration.  As someone else brought up for $150 arcade sticks, only people really into SF are buying that.  And don't bring up the collectors edition, every god damn game seems to have one nowadays.

Regardless of the hype level in your opinion, it seems likely that Killzone 2 will outsell SF4, right? And as I thought I stated clearly enough, I don't think Killzone 2 is overshadowing RES 5, but competing with it quite well considering the lack of a visible marketing campaign.

Also, I know this means next to nothing, but hearing so many anecdotal stories about Killzone 2 preorders far exceeding those for the other 2 games and performance on online sites are encouraging at least.

And as for the billions of Killzone 2 threads on this forum and other sites, I wouldn't completely disregard grass roots marketing and the ability of people to circulate those Metacritic scores and IGN reviews.  And when the Sony advertising kicks in, people may do some research and what will they see.  A lot of positive hype.

MGS4 was the first big blockbuster (and AAA) title to hit the PS3. And I don't remember it having any competition from Big third party blockbuster games. It was a "Niche" game in a very dry spell of PS3 games... unlike Killzone 2

It appears that RE5 is higher than KZ2, which is higher than SF4. Not a very accurate source, though.

Red is Resident Evil, Blue is Killzone 2, and Orange is Street Fighter

i'm sure one of the reasons is because tons of people are already disappointed with RE5, like me.

Okay, so the graph seems to show that Killzone 2 was under SF4 for a bit but now it is quite higher than it as they approach launch. I guess the fact that Resident Evil has such a storied past would contribute to it's search volume, their built in fanbase isn't exactly small. I guess we'll see how the searches translate to sales. Oh, and the fact that RES 5 is available to all HD people would contribute to the higher search count. Seems about right. Thanks gebx.
