 The majority of the food that the EU consumes is made in the EU.

Also:

China life expectancy: 73.18 years
US: 78.14 years

The difference isn't really that great when taking into account HDI and economic strength. China's food can't be that bad.

And the whole "BRING IT ON FUCKERS" implies that you have a feeling that the US would easily win a trade war. Considering that Germany alone is the world's largest exporting nation (larger than even China), and that the EU's GDP is greater than the US's... I don't think it would be all that easy.

All the U.S. needs to do is to threaten a new round of overseas military base closures and they'll drop their drawers, bend over and grab their ankles.  There are towns in Europe whose economy is completely, absolutely and utterly dependent on the U.S. military.  I would start with ALL of the bases (cold war relics) in Germany.  You could build a skyscraper with the bricks they would shit.

@akuma587, in the short term things would be very rough, in the long term it would be the best thing to happen because it would force us to rebuild our manufacturing base, which was decimated over the last quarter century by globalization.

After all protectionism really helped India, after all embracing trade really hurt the economies of Japan and Korea and every one drives a Hindustan Ambassador and no one has ever heard of these Honda, Toyota, Hundai and Kia cars ...

I find this somewhat pleasant. Isn't the EU notorius for not wanting American commodities, namely GMO crops? I understand the outrage of the EU but I find it fascinating that in these times it would be unacceptable to worry about ones own economy. Isn't this economy interdependence the same thing that always brings about worldwide recession/depressions?

Rejection of GMO crops is a good thing !!!!!

I'm just pissin' and moanin' because in my town fifty years ago we made almost everything, now there's absolutely nothing!

We could have walled off the entire county (St. Joseph, Indiana) and existed easily without the rest of the world.

 Do you have any statistics? I mean employment levels, etc? I'm sure that they're not going to be massive (a couple of hundred thousand across the whole of the EU), so the Government's would easily be able to take up the bases and call them their own. Which would really not do much other than strengthen EU militia...

Also, I really wouldn't want to piss off the Germans.
