Everyone says it's PSP, iPhone, but what if it's a launch game for PSP2, and long way off?

Doubtful. It would basically be saying that Sony has learnt nothing this generation.

How come?

The expanded market. Unless they make a play for it, they're not going to be a real player in the games industry in the future. And if they do, GTA will not be one of their launch titles, as it would only generate excitement in their traditional base.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Does the iphone have many games that you could consider on par with the average retail PSP games for example? You know, enough content to justify a retail price, that sort of thing?

I haven't got an iphone, and I don't know much about it's games, but the only ones I've seen are more like WiiWare games than anything else.

I understand your point, but I didn't mean it would be a launch game literally, but more of a something in, say, Q4 2011 range.

That certainly answers my question.

What kind of a price will that sell for?

I almost got motion sickness watching that game being played.

Can anyone answer my question?

The reason I'm asking is because if the answer is 'no', then creating a fully featured GTA for iphone would be a huge gamble, not only do you not know if iPhone has a market for GTA, you don't know if iPhone has a market for packaged-standard games at all, and GTA games are generally expensive projects even for packaged-standard games. It probably does, but making GTA is a very expensive way to test the market.

That sounds cheap, Celine.

@Star
Well I don't make the price
Payback ( the name of the GTA clone ) has a strange history.
It was released on Amiga long after the platform demise and it was in full 3D then it was ported to GBA ( ! ) and GP2X.

If you are interested the game is already out on the Apple Store.
