Forums - Sony - OMG Universal reconsidering BlueRay !!!!!

Perhaps there should be a consumer-protection mandate for studios to release everything in both HD formats. They could also regulate the licensing fees to the studios, etc. This would make the movie formats a lot less profitable to Sony/Toshiba and other companies involved (especially Sony), but it would lower costs for studios (hopefully passing that to customers) and it would allow people to go out and buy standalone high def players now without worrying. Hell, I'd buy the $200 HD-DVD player today if I knew it'd be supported in two years.

That would be awesome for the consumer.

Oh, poor Sony fanboys, they are frustrated... Their console of choice is last place, and now their dreams about Blu-Ray killing HD-DVD have been frustrated. Oh, poor guys, now they are desperate to prove that there is still hope for their console of choice... But don't worry, things cannot keep going bad forever, you know. Someday something good will happen to poor PS3. That's how the world works, not always losing, not always winning...

Perfect example of why majority of threads turn into flame wars....

Blatant troll post if I ever read one.

Anyway, the Universal rumor has been going on for like, months now. Until their is confirmation, it's all m00t.

Well ,Universal must be seeing the BR is the dominant format right now and that will probably intensify .Next year Toshiba dont count on having more than 1 million players out there ,and even that is a wonderfully optimistic prediction as they are around 300K even counting the HD.DVD add-on for the 360 .By that time the PS3 will have some 8 million easily worlwide .Besides it is clear the HD-DVD is dead in some regions as Asia where the BR has 96% of the market. So if they wanted to publish in HD in those regions they would have to support the BR all the same .The best for the industry is the Br winning the faster possible .

On the other hand its clear Sony and the BR Association must be doing their best to turn Universal neutral .The podcast speaks about very good conditions for Universal to release their movies in BR .
