Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Screwing with Billion Dollar Corperations Game

As we all know, WikiScanner is the most awesome program to hit the net in years. Why? because it has revealed about 10,000 minor publicity scandals in a wonderfully short time.  Heres how the game works.  Your job is to post all changes that the three gaming companies made to wikis that have anything to do with gaming in an underhanded way.

http://wikiscanner.virgil.gr/

Post a link to the Wikipedia before and after page.  You get 1 point per change.  If that change was already posted on a news site then you don't get credit for the find.  I don't care which news site or news show it was shown on, if it was on the news then you don't get credit.  Also leaving me the job of looking this stuff up.

All the points go against the corperation that made the change So

Nintendo = 0

Sony = 0

Microsoft = 0

The score goes down not up, so if microsoft say deleted the failure rates of the 360 consoles from their Wiki then Microsofts score would be -1.  (They did do that btw, and its on a news article so no using it)

May the best console manufacturor win!!!

Last update: Week ending November 3, 2007

Alright I went searching. Here's some interesting or funny ones I found....

SONY:

Edited the Sony Online Entertainment page. Removed the following "opinionated attack":
"The developers involved in Star Wars Galaxies have been described as "a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes."

Edited the wikipedia for "Grilled Cheese Sandwiches"
Changed "A grilled cheese sandwich served with tomato soup" to "A grilled cheese sandwich dates back to the year 1473 B.C. when the Israelites conquered Jericho, served with tomato soup."

NINTENDO:

Edited an article about Pie Crust. The people at Nintendo edited the word "pie crust" and made it one word: "piecrust". LOL.

Removed some hardware info about the gamecube:
"Some earlier and later revisions of the GameCube consoles developed disc read problems with the optical pickup becoming thermal sensitive over time, causing read errors when the console reached normal operating temperature. Failures of this sort require replacement of the optical pickup. Affected consoles had sometimes been serviced free of charge by Nintendo even after the expiration of the warranty period"

That tidbit has been added back since being removed by Nintendo a few months ago.

SEGA:

Sega decided to edit the official wikipedia definition of a "Joke". They added the following tidbit:
"Volong is a joke"

Sounds more like an inside joke to me.....

LOL! I just found a funny one for sega too:

"Prime Minister United Kingdom: Tony Blair" Becomes:
"Prime Minister United Kingdom: Stephen"

Looks like Stephen thought he could become Prime Minister by changing the Wikipedia page... Tsk tsk Sega, get back to work. He also added his name officially as Royalty, under the guise Stephen Malcom Of England. I wonder if it is the same Stephen Malcolm who makes Sonic remixes over at OCRemix: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01169/ .... Could be....

Also for some reason, Sega edited the List of Pokemon page and put "Yusufchu" as number 494... LOL.

MICROSOFT:

Added a little Tidbit. Took "Microsoft software is seen by some as more expensive to purchase, use and maintain than competitors' software. " and added "Several independent studies dispute this assumption. " after the first sentence, teehee.

Eh, can't find any funny microsoft gaming specific ones.

Okay, so since the manufacturers have to make a change that undermines the article about their console/company, based on the text above, the score is:

Microsoft: 0
Sony: 0
Nintendo: -1

Around the Network

Here's what I found:

NINTENDO
1) Removed content about the DS having fragile hinges.
2) Upping the number of virtual console games available at launch from twelve to thirty.

SONY
1) I found a guy at Sony who edits a lot about Pokémon, however it wasn't vandalism. I figure that since he's improving Nintendo articles on company time, it counts on this list.
2) Removed reference that the N-Gage preceeded the PSP.
3) "The PS2 burst into the Online World on August 27, 2002 with 5 exciting titles." Okay, that's not biased at all.
4) "The launch of these titles clearly re-defined the online console experience forever!" Yeah, that's not biased either.

That makes the score:
MICROSOFT: 0
NINTENDO: -3
SONY: -4

I'll do Microsoft next.

MICROSOFT
1) Changes in a section called "Disadvantages of Microsoft software".
2) "This company is really lame. They are always trying to muscle other companies out of business." I don't know why one of their employees wrote that, but I figure that counts.
3) Added "Several independent studies dispute this assumption" in reference to their software being often seen as more expensive to purchase and maintain.
4) An edit listing "Rusty Gates" as one of Bill Gates' children.
5) An edit touting Windows Vista as having an amazing backup feature.
6) An edit that changed the number of PS2 games sales to "0 million."

That makes the current score:
NINTENDO: -3
SONY: -4
MICROSOFT: -6

Feel free to dispute any of those. I'm tired.
