Forums - Gaming - Reeves: Videogame industry is about survival of the professional, not cutting prices and destroying the market

@reask

You think Greenberg will be quick to respond?

For some reason most people in this forums believe they are better than the guys in charge at Sony, M$ or whatever.

Stop for a second and think this guys must have done something right to be there.   One day, when you will see your limit in life, you will see who is more of an idiot.

One may also argue that these guys have done something very, very, very, very wrong to be in the position in which they are now.

Basically I think he's saying if MS hadn't lowered their price so aggressively, the studios that have closed wouldn't have had to, and some people would still have their jobs.

Regardless, I don't think it's very smart to attack your competitor for lowering their price, whether his point makes sense or not. MS isn't in the console war to keep peoples jobs, they're trying to win it. Whether a few people lose their job on the way is unimportant. Reeves even said it - they'll find another job at another studio. MS got the desired affect based on their price cuts.

Sony has dropped the price of the ps3 200$ in 2 years , MS has dropped the price of the 360 100$ in 3 years .

That's rather funny... For all of its price cuts, the 360 has been much more profitable than the PS3 lately. It doesn't have two other profitable platforms covering its ass either.

Besides, Microsoft cutting prices expands the userbase and makes it easier for publishers to make a profit on their games... How is that destroying the market? I guess he means destroying his market.

Oh well, just another day in gaming PR.

If he meant releasing a cheap piece of shit with no quality control so you can lower the price and maintain profit, then you've actually reinforced his point. If that's not what he meant, then he's barking up the wrong tree. By releasing such a cheap piece of shit, using the extra cash to bribe developers, MS have indeed helped destroy the industry. If gamers demand Fisher Price consoles so manufacturers can pay for exclusives, that's what they're going to get.

its almost like he is begging for them to not cut the price of teh box again b/c they cant do anything about it

hahaha

micro should knowck off 25 just for teh shit fest that would follow in sony camp

then for good measure nin should take off 50 to really kick em when their down

but nin wont

they honestly have been the only ones trying to stick to a high road this gen
