Forums - Microsoft - What to do when 360 scratches disc?

We're talking about a rental here. Play it for as long as it lets you. If and when it freezes, bring it back and tell them it was this way when you got it, which is probably the truth regardless.

If this ever happens to you when you buy a game though, there's a really good method of getting a free replacement.

Only works for first party games I believe. Since Gears was published by Microsoft it would work in this case but not in a lot of others. Microsoft does offer a replacement game of your choice from their library if a third party game is damaged. At least that is my understanding of the deal. I haven't read anything on it since near launch.

That wasn't what I was talking about, but it's always nice to see you Gnizmo. Bought any Treasure games lately? Finally got Bangai-O Spirits?

Brasso removes scratches from DVDs pretty well... just as well as the professional cleaning stuff does, really. If you really wanted to get that scratch out, you should take it to a shop with a professional machine though.

Honestly, a scratch which follows the spin of the disc is near impossible to remove effectively. That disc is pretty much hosed -- hopefully the rental place will just accept it and not charge you.

As I recall, rental games are generally sold to rental stores as a rental license (which costs a couple hundred $USD per copy), which expires after a certain amount of time (unless renewed). The discs themselves are cheap -- they can probably send the disc back to the manufacturer and get a replacement for like $5, and thus they will likely not charge you, their precious customer.

Not shake your 360 whilst it s got a disc in it? lol Honestly does that even happen? I have had over 15 games in my 360 and none have been scratched. What exactly is scratching the discs?

Sadly no. Still on a job hunt to get a positive cash flow. After that I shall import Bleach: Versus Crusade, and then but Bangai-O. As much fun as the game is, I have played it for a long time already so it can wait. Until then I am limited to rentals through Gamefly which means no new Treasure games for me =(. I atill need to school you in Bleach DS as I recall. Send me a friend code sometime slacker!

I sold my xbox when it had happen to me, with mass effect, never had a chance to finish the game though.

Blockbuster has a disc repair machine.. I had a coworker use it and it worked.. no wait, it didn't work.. hehe

You curse and complain that Microsoft still hasn't fixed that. I don't think you can fix the circle scratch.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.
