Forums - Gaming - Capcom's predictions for RE5 sales (ZOMG what do they smoke???)

I think 5-6mill on both consoles is possible Life to Death remember it's been 4yrs since 4 was out people have been waiting a long time for RE5 and its shooter and co-op elements might atract new users

As 4 500k day 1 in Jap thats a little to high i would say 200k-250k remember according to my ps360wii pricing info thread it's bundled for both ps3 and 360 in JP

The problem with thoses predictions is that the game is stuck between big games. So we have RE5 but also killzone 2, SFIV, SO4, and Halo ... Yakuza 3 and FFXIII demo shouldn't help too ...

But well, I hope this game will sell pretty well even if it will disapoint many people IMO.

I know it sounds silly, but I think a lot of it's sales potential will depend on how good it is. If it's a great game, I could see it doing 3M on the 360 word wide.

I'm not sold on it myself. I miss the old slow paced plodding Resident Evils.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Sadly I think this game will reach its goal easily; Shooters in general are all the rage, and the game seems too flashy to fail.

3M on 360 easily WW in 2009...PS3 has to do 2 mil WW for this to be true.

Just take a look at Factor 5 and Free Radical.  Both made but one HD console game and went out of business promptly afterwards.  Companies like EA, which never had problems making a profit before despite past console transitions, are losing money like crazy as well.  Half of Activision's revenues (and much more of their profits) come from WoW, and without it there's little telling where they'd be.  No HD-focused company is walking with their head held high, and many devs outright admit that they subsidize HD game costs wit hSD game sales.  Nintendo, the only major company not making any HD games, has the biggest revenues and profits by a huge margin.  Whoever comes out of HD gaming alive is not going to be in nearly as good a shape as they went into this generation, and virtually no new IPs are going to be developed as compared to the last three.  When Namco Bandai says they need to make .5 million sales minimum (1 million more realistically) to break even on HD games and the majority of games sold never reach .5 million, that's a bad sign.  It's these factors that cause companies to lean on "crap" like Carnival Games.

5 mil is doable 500k in japan is pushing it

If this game is as good as RE4, it can do it. However, it doesn't look as good as RE4 from the videos I've seen.
