Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 require "good" marketing more than good reviews for great sales

I am not sure what other believe but i think that to achieve some really good sales Killzone 2 require some serious marketing from Sony...

None of the game on the PS3 has reached the level of 5million or plus except for GTA4. Whereas now PS3 has quite a few AAA titles.. which have done well but could have done a lot better with proper marketing compaign.

So Killzone sure has the potential to do 4million+ if it is marketed properly.. I know its going to be a very good game but i don't think the high review score are going to turn into high sales.

the problem is that Sony has too many games to advertise,,,so they loose their focus.

Sony has to do ad for these games this year:

KZ2
infamous
Heavy rain
Mag
Uncharted 2
maybe GOW III
ratchet and clack future 2

and many more.
so they don't have enough money to spend 70% of the ad budget on only one game.

they should,,,but they are not gonna.

Halo 3 had $45-50 million for advertising Killzone 2 will be lucky to get $20 million

You know you have a point there. And seriously Killzone 2 should get some Marketing from now to build up the Hype even more. I mean Sony hasnt really marketed it's games well aside from that Entertainment Block and that cheesey Courage is Solid (MGS4) commercial.

This is one thing where I have a huge amount of respect for MS no matter what you can say about their business practices the amount of commercials and the quality of commercials are bar none it even has me questioning whether or not I should Jump In

BTW Noobie how does it feel to be a Dual HD owner? do you find yourself overwhelmed by the amount of games there is to play?

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

you are %100 right though,,,reviews or hype are not equal to sales.

in their ad they should show the game play and write "this is an actual footage of the game play"

I ll give you one instance to show how important the ad really is:

LBP was heavily advertised in UK 2 week after it launched(at first it didn't do good ,,,so they decided they need heavy ad campaign for that game)

LBP cracked 350,000 units in UK in 2 months(more than MGS4 in 8 months)

There is much greater chance of Kill Zone 2 receiving great review scores of 90% +, than there being a good Sony marketing campaign of the game. Most of the PS3 marketing campaigns of the past two years have been a joke and have not helped PS3 game sales.

Yes, this is 1 game Sony should advertise properly. It's a great game, and PS3 owners should buy it, but its not only reviews saying it, putting the right ads out there saying that it got gr8 reviews, putting gr8 gameplay footage, and putting the right presentation to aim at the hardcore ps3 gamers should help it increase sales.

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil
