Sony might get big profits from PS3, if they just wait enough, but it might backfire too as you said. If MS would want finish Sony, it would bring next XBox as soon as possible. That way MS would make it even harder Sony to make any profit from PS3.

Wow. $8 billion would be a big hit for Microsoft, but they could take it without even taking on debt.

I have some doubts about that calculation though. Would Microsoft ever be forced to pay for hardware upgrades?

First off, I tend not to take seriously any "journalist" who lacks the ability to use proper grammar. Perhaps Cody should take a few writing courses.

That said, the article is almost humorous. MS is in trouble because 360 profits are down while unit sales are up? Then I guess Sony has one foot in the grave.

What a stretch this argument is.

I don't get god of war at all.



Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

The article writer obviously doesn't know much about the sales potential of Killzone 2 and God of War III to be putting them up as these gigantic challenges for Microsoft to overcome. Gran Turismo 5 I can see being a challenge. Not these two games though.

I would think the zune has been a minor success for microsoft. It may not be selling the most as an mp3 player, but it still sells, and has built up a brand for microsoft in the mp3 player business.

Zune = xbox x 1.5

I mean, it couldn't have made losses comparable to the first xbox.


As for the xbox 360, I think microsoft already has built it up nicely, it shows. They have the ps3 to worry about still, especially after god of war 3 comes out. Killzone 2 won't have any effect though, since a small amount of people liked the first one, or don't think it too special to buy a 400$ system.
Microsoft, In my eyes, don't have anything to combat the 3 or 4 massive titles sony is bringing out. I mean, Halo: ODST is their biggest sequel we know that's coming out, but it's still an expansion and not Halo 4, or Halo Chronicles. Microsoft better bring out their hype cannons when Mass Effect 2 is announced for 2009 (hopefully)

That is the greatest spin I have ever heard.

MS makes a 4.6 billion profit in 3 months

Xbox360 is very profitable (like 500million in the last 6 months + the losses made by the zune)

Xbox360 is selling more units every week than the PS3

Xbox360 is a software selling beast

Xbox Live has more than 17 million members. Let's estimate 10 million of them are paying every year.

Sony still sells PS3-consoles with a loss

Sony made a 1.7billion loss last year

Sony needs to cut the price to increase sales, but at this time, they can't afford this.

 

And the author thinks MS is doomed, because of two games? I don't think so.

The 360 profits were up. Only reason the Entertainment division was only up 3% and not more, was because the Zune was down 50%, as was other stuff in that division. The 360 is not in trouble
