Forums - Gaming - Can a joint console effect between Microsoft and Sony defeat Nintendo?

This generation is pretty much over with the Wii selling like hotcakes.

Both Microsoft and Sony are loosing profits and bleeding money left and right. What if in 2012, Sony and Microsoft decide to put their differences aside and became business partner in the videdogame sector and co release a new console. Xstation maybe?

If they take the best aspect of the current consoles and integrated into a single box (Sony will built the hardware, Microsoft will provide the software and Live), and with games like Halo, Gears, God of War and GT all in one console, is that enough to defeat the Wii 2 in the next round? Or will the Nintendo continue to have the momemtum into the next generation?

It is one of those idea that believe it or not might come true one day.

Microsoft's not bleeding money... And the only reason that Microsoft is even in the Console race was to stop sony from taking over the living room...

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

2 Giants of business would never work together and lose their particular 1st party title advantages.

But if it happened i still think they would have the same problem that theyre in now, they don't appeal to enough demographics to be successful enough to beat Nintendo. Joining would not bring anything new to the table.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

PS3 and 360 are fighting over the same market, the Wii has a different market all to it's own.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

That's exactly what Nintendo wants them to do! Don't fall for it MS and Sony. It's a trap!!

Sounds like a Fantasy to me.

BUT if they were to team up to thrash nintendo they could do it, but it would be a hard road ahead nintendo has an Oricalcum fist in casual market and its absorbing teh familys.

But i'd say Sony+MS VS Nintendo would be the most interesting thing to happen in gaming history. i'd say in the end Nintendo would lose in terms of market share, but only by a hair.

I don't want Sony anywhere near the next Xbox ............

Their corporate personalities are too far removed from each other to be effective in making something like this. Just agreeing on hardware would be like a gang war.

If they did? No, it probably wouldn't stop Nintendo, not by virtue of being a joint effort, but I'm not going to call how the fight would turn out either way. Nintendo has proven that trying to predict from generation to generation is a fruitless endeavor.

I'm sure the hardware would be spectacular (and expensive) and all those games! but I don't like the way Sony go about things. I much prefer how Microsoft have handled this generation.
