Forums - Sony - Would it bother you if the PS3 was Sony's last console?

I find it really funny how people seem to blame Sony for making Sega quit the console business. Don't get me wrong, i have all the sega consoles and sonic, shenmue, panzer dragoon saga, story of thor, street of rage, shinobi, altered beast, golden axe, and many more, are on my top games of all time list. But Sega did some stupid mistakes, beginning in the megadrive years, with the release of the hugely expensive 32x and Sega CD, which were a huge blow for the company due to the lack of sales.
Then in the Saturn years, they did what to me was their hugest mistake, their top games didn't get enough copies to be sold worldwide. Panzer Dragoon Saga was a huge expensive game for the Sega company, and they only made 30000 copies for a worlwide release? Only 2000 for pal territories? That was utter suicide. Also some top projects got canned due to internal conflicts, like Sonic Extreme.
This policy continued with the dreamcast, and with that came Sony and Nintendo (yeah because people seems to forget that the major competition for Sega was Nintendo and not sony from the beginning) with better projects and more support than sega could offer. So please, as a fellow Sega lover, stop living in the past and playing the blame game, because that's not gonna bring back those days.

OT - Yeah, i would be bothered if the PS3 was sony last console, because first they have great series that i would hate to see them dissapear, and because sony's products are always reliable and trustworthy, even if they are expensive as hell

Reliable I give you but Trustworthy ? !!!!

What you think the other consoles will steal your paycheck and sleep with your wife ?

Im sorry, maybe i didn't phrase that well enough, just trying to say that it has a good customer support (I have various sony products like a TV, DvD player and the consoles) and every problem that i had with them were rapidly taken care of.

Yes! And, if Nintendo left, too. PC gamers wouldn't, tho, nor would M$ or Nintedo fanboys.

Just think about what SONY has done for gaming...

Playing and finishing games first>>>>>>>>>>Then talking!

Opinions are subjective and just like moods, can change.

TOP 12: Deus Ex, Shadow Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturn, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Prime, Zelda (series), Uncharted (series), FF Tactics, Persona (series), Demons Souls, Vagrant Story.

MOST WANTED: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Last Guardian, ICO/Shadow OTC HD

Funny tho, people say things, then later when things change/go they regret sometimes it.

Yes it would bother, cause that would mean that only MS and Nintendo remain.
We all know what happens when MS has no competition, they get lazy.

IE6 is a bitch for webdevelopers and designers, and if there wasn't any competition from standards-compliant browsers like firefox, safari, or chrome, they would have never make IE7 and IE8 more standards compliant.
That counts for Vista too: if there's no competion from Mac OS X and Linux, it would take years for them to start thinking about and work on a better OS like Windows 7.

Point is: if there isn't any competition, MicroSoft would go stale, just sitting back and relax and cashing money.
MS is undercutting the competition on price-level, they wouldn't do that if there wasn't any competition; you would have to pay the full-price for the console, the games, the online-business and the accessories.

The only mistake Sony made is making the hardware a bit to expensive for most people and took a bit too long with their games / software, but they didn't cut back on quality.
If Sony went out of business, it would be a loss for the gaming community worldwide: gamers and gamedevelopers

As long I have games to play in my PS3 it's fine. On the next generation, if there isn't any playstation there will be other systems.

Where ever Metal gear goes, I will follow.

PD: Please, oh please, do not make the next metal gear on a wii o r a wii2 system, please!!!

PD: "What you think the other consoles will steal your paycheck and sleep with your wife ?"   I wish i could vote this as "comment of the year" xD xd xD

Not at all. Sony came in to the business by hogging 3rd party games with cash...putting Sega(much superior gaming company) out of hardware and almost crippling Nintendos console business.

If they left someone else would jsut take their spot and pick up their studios...

100% true

I second the above statement.

(Saved me from going in to an anti sony rant lol)

you Sega fanboys should shut up, how its Sony's fault your company couldn't beat PS2? Maybe SEGA should be more creative and try something new instead of only Sonic. Sega is NOT superior gaming company. do you see any SEGA consoles today?

I've never owned a Playstation or really wanted one but I hope Sony doesn't leave the industry.. Competition is good for creativity and keeping prices down.. plus a lot of jobs would be lost if Sony exits the industry.

I agree. Sony's presence is good for the industry. As is Microsofts and Nintendos.

I however grew up with the PS1, then the PS2, and someday a PS3 and possibly also a PSP. Some of my favourite games come from sony, and have been on Sony consoles. I would be dissapointed if they left for those reasons also.
